How do you Group your weapons?

Hi all,
Been playing Freelancer for 2 months now and am beginning to get the hang of it - GREAT game BTW!!!

One thing that I can't seem to work out, is how to group my weapons. I know there should be a way of doing this, there are groups on the options menu, but HOW?

Also, I seem to recall reading about being able to setup the countermeasures to work automatically. Is this true?

Would appreciate any help.

there are some types of weapons

1. particle
2. laser
3. tachyon
4. plasma
5. pulse
6. photon
7. neutron
8. nomad blasters
9. torpedo launcher
10. missile
11. mine dropper
12. cruise disruptor
13. level 10 weapons (a group of their own )

this is the way the original weapons are grouped

the counter measure dropper can be automatically dropped.
look at the right hand corner[bottom of your screen.
there is a column where you get to turn your weapons on and off.
you can turn on or off any weapon,mine,missile,torpedo,cruise disruptor and countermeasure dropper.....

I could be wrong, but I think he is actually asking about HOW to group weapons, IE, how to set it so that, for example, group 1 is his Laser weapons, group 2 is his heavy hitting shields weapons (del Cids?), etc.

I don't think he was asking what the different weapon groups were.

At any rate, I have never grouped my weapons or set up hotkeys to be able to switch from one group to another on the fly, so I would also be curious on how to do this.

I may be wrong however.

@ittan, if you select the CMs in that list, it will make it so that every time you fire the weapons, a CM (or mine or torp) will launch when you click. I know that if you change some of the files, you can make the turrets autofire.

Yes Puke, I am an old Elite player.

Yes WapCaplet, I was asking how to group selected weapons, rather than how to fire a group. It would make it a bit easier to use the correct weapons for the correct shield - it would also mean a reduction in energy wastage! Does anyone know how to do this? Any help, would be appreciated.

It took me a while to do so, but I managed to figure out grouping.

Scroll down a little, as this is from hte Rebalance MOD, talking about one of the ships in the MOD. But when it starts talking about Torp firing, that's where it gets into more detail about firing chains.
