Freelancer + Starlancer

I´ve played both games... The 2 of them are good... VEEEEERY GOODS !!
StarLancer was focused as a simulator... where every ship specification was unique, your ship can only carry the guns that it´s got, but you could change the kind of missiles you want to mount. The way of play, matching the speed of the enemy´s ship and dodging enemy´s shoots going crazy in spirals was.. MAGNIFICENT... but the good playing style had got some bad characteristics: no trading, only focused in military career, no way to explore...
That things are fixed very good in FreeLancer, but various of the good things of StarLancer have been lost.
I think that the next FreeLancer or StarLancer shoul have the good things of every one of the games, even if you can change the weapons of your ship (not all weapons can be fitted in all ships, and the level restrictions are for taking laughs... a laser canon can´t do more damage than a Tachyon or Particle Cannon despite what level of weapons are used...)

Sorry about my english, I preffer to explain my thoughts in my spanish mother language, but I´ve tried to explain them in english as good as I can...

Your english is fine, I understood what you meant with no problem. They're just very different games. It's been quite a while since we focused on Starlancer here, but we used to edit just about everything in that game. At one point I had a fleet of Homer Simpsons shooting lasers out his mouth and tachyon cannons out his "ehem" derriere. I had the entire enemy fleet's ships set to a maximum speed of 1, and so they would just sit there with their engines smoking while Homer went over and farted Tachyon beams until all the bad guys were space dust. The editing tools and ships may still be on this site somewhere, I just haven't looked lately.
But it's true, with Starlancer you're a member of the military, and have people you need to answer directly to. Freelancer was designed for you to have the choice of whatever faction you want to ally with (after the missions, of course). They're both great games, and yes, both quite different with the exception that they both take place mostly in space.

Well, they are about 800 years apart. And Freelancer is not really involved in a war ... until near the end.

Wonder if I can still find Starlancer somewhere. Hard to find games much more than a year old where I live.

You can still get it on Amazon, but I think you have to go through one of their resellers. It's cheap though!

I play both Freelancer and Starlancer, depending on my mood. When I want to participate in a military campaign--escorting torpedo bombers against capital ships and the like--I play Starlancer. When I want to explore the galaxy as a smuggler, I play Freelancer.

I agree that both games have their highlights. Ship control is more sophisticated in SL, whereas the universe is more sophisticated in FL. If there's a sequel, I also hope it's got the best of both games.
