<< I was trying to give a real life example that demonstrated, that just because one person thinks a certain ship is the best, that doesn't mean it actually is. >>

I actually know an ex-US Navy fighter pilot in his 70's who flew Panthers in the Korean War. He always says how much he loved the Panther, how much fun it was to fly. But he adds that it was very underpowered and couldn't keep up with a Soviet Mig. The two times he got on a Mig's tail, the Russian pilot just peeled off and zoomed away. I don't think a single Panther pilot became an ace in that war. The allied aces flew Sabres.

So it comes down to two things: the pilot AND the plane. If pilots are equal, the better plane should prevail. If the pilots aren't, the poorer pilot had better hope that he is the one in the better ship. Then maybe he'll get away.

p.s. I don't recall that you can buy a Horus in the SP game.

Btw, if anyone is interested in the Korean Air War, I do have a site still around from the late 90's about it.
Here's the URL...

The Mig is generally accepted to be a better plane, it was like the AK-47 of the Air War, crude but very effective. US pilots often complained about the ridiculous level of oversophistication in their planes and how things like radar assisted aiming were in reality of very little use to the pilot and were only used by politicians so that they could boast about how they were so much more advanced than the crude Russians. The losses in Korea were definitely due to lack of pilot experience. Korean conscripts that have been in training for about a month are no match for heavily trained Americian pilots. The Russians had some veterans too, but not enough.

Anyway, as for the pilot V plane question, the answer is you need a combination, but if the pilots are of ROUGHLY the same skill, a VHF will kick the crap out of a LF any day.
