Anyway, why is everyone so anxious for a sequel?

Easy answer... because they want to see the rest of the story.

I think it's pretty common knowledge around here that the original story has been somewhat edited in order to get the game released on time. It's also quite evident that there is more, (take a look at all the screens from the early storyline that were cut, even the original video trailer was cut and altered, actually the original video intro makes more sense to me than the one we have now). From all the things said at the end of the game, like the bloke Juni is talking to who was there at the start, Orillion being all coy and saying work for me, also all the other things previously mentioned in this thread... indicators that there is more to the story than what we have now.

Perhaps MS/DA are going to release an expansion for Freelancer (like they did for the Mechwarrior 4 title, i.e. The Black Knight expansion). The expansion could be the continuation of the storyline (with an upgraded, 'dynamic' trade system, something that was supposed to be in the original release but was also cut... so I have read), rather than a Freelancer 2... who knows eh?
