Ok, im gonna go COMPLETELY theoretical here: i am assuming that the 'class' marking refer to the number of control/power rods in the hardpoint, although impossible to no normally in the game, some ships have 'higher than normal' weps because thay have run another temporary wiring cluster from the main computer system to the gun, thus compensating for the extra system control, but also making the gun inherently unstable(theoretical again, mod a class ten cerberus cannon onto a starflier and you wont have any problems apart from it draing you powerplant might quicklike). Plus the power supply is only meant to supply power to those class weapons designed for if you put a class ten weapon on a class one generaton ur gonna have to wait for the supply to regen to refire.
