Is it possible to disable the leveling up process during the

What I mean is would it be possible to level up without having to do Juni's missions?

I was thinking that if this was disabled, then you could really go off and do your own thing, without having to do Juni's missions in order to get a better ship/weapons.

If this would be possible then it would remind me more so of Elite that I used to play on a BBC model B microcomputer around 20 years ago. For those that can remember the original wireframe Elite, it occasionally threw in optional quests. Doing the missions for Juni whenever you wanted would be more in line with this and IMO would enrich the gameplay and longevity of the sp story (on the flipside some may say that the missions would be too easy), however as it stands they aint hard anyway.

Is disabling the leveling up process during sp storyline possible? Is there anything out there already that does this?

Try downloading Open SP, as this will do just that basically.

Alternatively - open the Rankdiff.ini file in teh missions folder, and you see this:
[RankDiffDB
rank_diff = Base_0_Rank, 0.082100
rank_diff = FreeTime_01_02, 0.112387
rank_diff = FreeTime_02_03, 0.205129
rank_diff = FreeTime_03_04, 0.351002
rank_diff = FreeTime_04_05, 0.480486
rank_diff = FreeTime_05_06, 0.657737
rank_diff = FreeTime_07_08, 0.900376
rank_diff = FreeTime_08_09, 1.232525
rank_diff = Mission_End, 38.983860

I haven't tried it - but these relate to the random missions folder diff2money.ini file:
[Diff2Money
Diff2Money = 0, 1800
Diff2Money = 0.082100, 2200
Diff2Money = 0.112380, 2655
Diff2Money = 0.205130, 3219
Diff2Money = 0.351000, 3919
Diff2Money = 0.480490, 4792
Diff2Money = 0.657740, 5887
Diff2Money = 0.900380, 7264
Diff2Money = 1.232530, 9001

Diff2Money = 1.687200, 11201
Diff2Money = 2.309610, 13994
Diff2Money = 3.161630, 17551
Diff2Money = 4.327960, 22093
Diff2Money = 5.924540, 27904
Diff2Money = 8.110100, 35356
Diff2Money = 11.101920, 44928
Diff2Money = 15.197410, 57246
Diff2Money = 20.803740, 73118
Diff2Money = 28.478239, 93597
Diff2Money = 38.983860, 120051
Diff2Money = 53.365002, 146192
Diff2Money = 73.051361, 190050
Diff2Money = 100.000000, 247065

The highlighted areas co-incide. So if you set it to match HIGHER rank stuff - then it should work (theoretically) taht you have to earn ALOT more before carrying on with the game. That way you can do more stuff - however, i have NOT tried this - but give it a go. Sub the values in for higher stuff - but i recommend you also edit to open jumpgates as well.........
(ie - 0.0821000 becomes 20.802740 (73118 credits level) instead, at which point you should have a massive "free time" before carrying on with story.)

Do a Google and you'll find the old Elite in PC adaptions. It is frustrating in FL that you can't buy a better ship or weapons, even when you have the money.

p.s. The Elite missions were challenging. Remember being sent all over the universe with messages telling you where your "target" was, only to find he had just left? But the final encounters were a let down -- having to blast the damn bad guy with your military lasers about 3,650 times to destroy them!

Thanks for the reply Chips,

Can I just seek a tiny bit of clarification here?

Will your Open SP allow me to do Juni's missions when I want to as well as allowing me to buy anything I want (assuming I have the cash), without needing to achieve a required level to buy it, e.g. If I had the money, could I buy a level 9 gun, even if my stats said I was level 4?

The reason I ask is that until now I thought your Open SP just got rid of Juni's missions altogether, and made SP the same as multiplayer. If this means I can do Juni's missions whenever I want to, well mate you've just made my day

*edit time - I've thought of something else to ask (sorry for all the question Chips), will Open SP work with your excellent expansion pack? (I don't like to call your work a mod, as it does far more in my opinion).

Barwalker,

I do indeed remember those missions. I also remember the thrill of the chase as you got closer and closer to catching the guy. I can't remember what he did, was it that he stole an experimental space craft? That seems to ring a bell from the corners of my mind. Military lasers... I loved the sound they made, even though they were through the Beebs onboard speaker
