To find your answer you will need to look in the spoiler forum. Spoilers are not allowed here.

I found the Hovis race to be a beast at first. Took I don't know how many times, until it suddenly just clicked. Now I can beat him every time with ease.

1) Kick in your cruise engines immediately.

2) Make sure you know the course well enough not to get lost!

Just keep trying and you'll do it.

Make sure your turn is sharp as possible. Ie. closer to the center edge of the ring. Race drivers do this to beat their competition. Get a manuverable ship. Although I beat him on a Titan so I guess the first tactic is more important than the other one.

In addition to all the above suggestions, make sure you use strafe during the race. It allows for lateral movement without having to change the direction of your ship's nose. This keeps you from having to make large changes in your ships' direction that can reduce your speed and cost you the race. I've always used this tactic and haven't lost to Hovis yet.

*cough* Spoilers! *cough*

Just hit cruise immediately (don't thruster :p) and dont hit the rings or Hovis. You win. How hard was that?

I can't understand people have problems with this race..
I win in a crappy crusader all the time, it's really not that hard if you just engage your cruise instantly.

<< it's really not that hard if you just engage your cruise instantly.>>

That was the main problem. First couple of times I tried it, I was using the thrusters to get to the ring and then hitting the cruise engines. Unless you use the cruise engines all the way, you've had it.

Dude, d = 200(h) * t + 300(c - x) * t
Uhh...I forget what the formula stands for.
H is thruster, C is cruise, X is cruise charge time and T is time.
And D is distance.

BUT, there's a point to this. Thruster is a waste of time in the race. Don't use it. You'll still have to wait the same amount of time for your cruise engines to charge, and you'll only be wasting time going 100 slower that cruise speed.

There When Your 3 4ths of the way through theres a sharp turn u always get him on

To beat Hovis is really simple.

Just follow him in cruise mode and make sure you don't miss any rings, he'll get in front of you. Just keep following him. It's scripted so he misses a ring towards the end, and you get in front and win.

I was sort of diappointed that I couldn't go back and race him later, as he invited ...
