World wide tournament

Hey every one, this is SHAFT here, for a while now I’ve been thinking about how there is no real tournaments happening on freelancer and no one can really test them self’s at a high level. So after a little bit of thinking and talking with some friends I’ve decided to make up my own tournament and im gonna try and make it as well known as possible. It’s gonna take a lot of organising and a while to set up.

It will most likely take the best part of a day to have everyone get their ships set up on the Alpha centauri 2 server , Don’t worry about money because everyone will be giving lots of cash and there will be referees to over see the fights and things in general , so no one will run outa money .

The tournament itself goes a little like this:

There will be 3 divisions.

Division 1. All gun fighters
Division 2. Combination fighter gun/missile
Division 3. All missile fighters

Each division will be split into groups, depending on how many people actually turn up. Once everyone has signed up and has their ships ready, everyone will meet up at OMICRON GAMMA, the home place of duelling. So once everyone has assembled at gamma they will then be put into their divisions and groups. Each group will then do a Person V Person, so 2 people at a time, THIS IS NOT A FREE FOR ALL. After this the winner of each group will then go against each other , and if necessary the winners of the first round might have to be put into groups again depending on numbers .

Once a sure winner has be decided for each division they will then be announced the best player in freelancer at that certain type of weapons selection . Then for the grand final each division winner will have the option to fight each other and the winner from that will be called the best player over all in freelancer.

Extra notes:

Each division will have 1 or more referees.

The server will be ALPHA CENTAURI 2 although I am still looking for any back up server just as a precaution.

No date has been set yet but it will be within the next couple of months .

Sounds very nice!
world wide might be a bit hard because of time diffrence.
This last round will be fought with what wepons?? because missiles vurses guns and misslies would be a bit unfair

. Omicron Gamma's a strange place to hold it though, why not Theta where it's neutral? Cause I'm always enemy with the Corsairs due to the Outcasts' obvious superiority.

Why don't make a system? I can do one, that has no NPC harsnment (is that how you spell it?), and only one base, that can sell all weapons, so people don't have to fly all way to SIgm... another system to get an PROME... über-weapon.
By the way, if you want to still have it in Omicron Gamma, could i be guarding the area from NPC's? (Could i have a BS then, please?).

I suggest you maybe make it a little bit more organised, call in more people to help you (if you haven't already), and maybe make other divisions and groups. I suggest:

Missiles
über-weapons
normal weapons
medium weapons
über shields
normal shields
medium shields
LF's
HF's
VHF's
and a group with only very good things (Sabre, Titanm or Eagle, überweps, übershields, and one with poor crap)

Harrasment? Is that the word you're looking for?

And as for the new system and mods and things...I think it'd be best to keep mods out of the picture. It might be a good idea to have a storage char with all kinds of weapons and shields and stuff will several dozen million credits to give to other players, or maybe have something like a player gets $1 000 000 and they can outfit themselves any way that they want as long as their ship's value is equal or lesser than said amount of credits.

plus, it would be to even if everyone had best weapons, shields ,missiles and ships. It would be a good tournament if it took place at a server that was well known so more people were interested.

Alot of ideas here.
I think that a system should be made because then you have controll of it more than you would with any other system. I have to admit though, been a guard for the tournament would be pretty fun

All those catergoys would be a bit hard to do, i suggest that you have a few but not that many.
I would be intrested to hear from Tournament host, and see if he wants to make any changes.

yes... except, with all of your divisions, you are separating the "drake" players (or any other LF, drake is most common) from the VHF and HF players, it just doesnt seem right. lots of people with LFs battle VHFs quite often, and win. I really beleive that if you want a true winner, you should just have all players in one class fighting with whatever they think they can win with. its not "unfair" to anyone, because it sounds like you're giving them enough credits to get whatever they want anyway. if they think they can win in it, let em fly in it against whoever they happen to be matched up against.

if you decide to mod, put in a base that sells codenames, all ships, all sheilds, u get the idea.

against everything i sed above, i think watching LF vs. LF duels would be pretty sweet. but this isnt about watching. its about winning.

i think the class catagories of
1. all gun fighters
2. combo missile/gun fighters
3. all missile scows

is decent enough. if you feel confident to enter a fight with much higher classed ships with much stronger guns (sans crappy pilots) then what does anyone have to worry about? come as you feel confident with. i vote a strong and hearty alpha centauri 2 for the server. i think all should be there early to get ready to fight. and also the fight should be in new york. trenton has all the ammo anyone could ever want.

Ok thank you everyone for your suggestions, keep them coming. Now as for what i've written down so far, it’s only a first draft. For example the change of system for the tournament is a good idea; i'm currently trying to decide which would be most appropriate. Now people have talked about having people there to stop others that try to interfere, that’s what the referees are there for. Also as for the orginisation of the tournament, i’ve already talked to lots of friends and server admins etc, and ill have plenty of help.

But so far the basis of the tournament will remain the same; I don’t want to start splitting up ships etc, because if a person in a drake can kill a person in an eagle at such a high level then that person deserves to be playing against bigger ships.

As for the time difference, we will be working off GMT time, and ill make sure that it is at a time that suits everyone .Finally, as for mods etc and new system that’s a big no for me. I’m going to try and keep this a clean game, and i’m sure you guys proberly feel the same. If I made a new system the number of player that would turn up to the tournament would proberly drop and this is something I don’t want, but thanks for your suggestions anyhow.

Ok thanks everyone if you have any more suggestions then keep them coming. If you know of any good servers that would like to be a backup server in case of emergency then please e-mail me. Or if you want to help out as well just mail me.
