*sob* i wish they didn't cancel imperium galactica 3

Imperium Galactica 3 is being developed by another company. I think the article said that it was coming out in the fourth quarter, 2004.

" If a person keeps doing the same trade route over and over why not have a chance that informants would notify interested parties of your cargo n destination. "

Oh, that can happen in Multiplayer *evil eyes*. Trade lanes aren't always safe from player interference

I always thought it would be cool if a bunch of game makers collaberated and combined many games into one. For instance, you could control one person in one house, for the Sims aspect, then you could control any city in your country, for the Sim City aspect, then, you have the planet. At the beginning there are multiple countries on a planet, but you can dominate it, like in Civilization, with Starcraftesque fighting. Then, you can spread to solar systems and galaxys. Etc.
Also, it could be DiabloIIish, you could control your sim when you fight, in a battle or in space, you collect items and stuff, like Freelancer. Just an idea, I think it would be pretty cool. By the way, you should try and give EV Nova a try, its a pretty nifty game.

ill get bored after ive looted EVERY wreck, found EVERY base/jumphole in EVERY system, and have EVERY codename gun in my inventory, and have flown for EVERY faction

no question theres alot to do in FL, just alot of the same stuff

dunno, i just love exploring and getting all the secrets (i guess that comes from my RPG routes)

ur right about alot of that stuff, well thought out

Orillion: So trent, will you help us with the mission?

Trent: Sure, as long as I'm not shot at, knocked out, held at gunpoint, electrocuted, skewered alive by giant alien shapeshifters, have to dive out windows, or fight off spindly nomad incubi.

one thing I'd like to point out in response to the topic title.

I live in a capital city, and I havent seen any copies of Freeelancer for sale for some time,
so it must be selling rather well in Australia anyway.

yay!

Or it could be because Freelancer was a commercial failure and the stores seen no point in stocking it...

I'm making record time!
If only I had someplace to be...

Post Sat Feb 21, 2004 3:21 am

Actually I was just about to say that...the fact that shops don't have any stock could simply mean they aren't selling it, which is not very good.

cant we just not see if we can mod the game engine and make an complete new freelancer that would be nice

seeing at the ini's: if all modders and scripters and other brats come together we can create a new version of FL

I'd have to agree with Corsair n Braxton, Duriel. I doubt the reason it's not is stores is because it's flying off the shelves. I'd like to think it was true, but sounds like wishful thinking to me.

When I started this thread last week I was caught up in a little wishful thinking myself. As I stated in one of the replies above, I normally play RTS games. The discussion boards are pretty active, and at least for some time after the release there is a fair amount of interaction between the DEV's and the players to work out bugs and balance issues. I've been pretty fortunate in that many of the suggestions I've posted have become incorporated into the game. Some I'm certain were a direct result of my ideas, of course no credit was ever given or even an email. Job security is job #1 especially with EA Games. The point is: Reality has set in concerning FL. Let's see, how many patches have they put out for this game......1...2? And how long ago was that? The guys that made this are probably in the Caribean somewhere soaking up rays and could care less about improving this game or starting a sequel. I used to buy games the day they hit the shelves...WCIII...Generals...FL...RON...and others and always..ALWAYS they are something other than they are billed as. I'll tell you this for nothing...Gone are the days when I will kick down fifty bucks for a game on release day. These corps look at us only with dollar signs in their eyes and can give a Rat's U know what about the actual quality of the game. It's actually in their best interest to make games we will get bored with so they start collecting dust and we get the itch to get some new eye candy.

I just started playing with the Mods and they are pretty sweet. I especially like the lighting mod that makes the universe far more realistic and the one that has the NPC ships shields regenerate like mine do. Big Kudos to the MOD Makers. I truly hope you guys get to live the dream and develope your own games because the fact is your cleaning up the piles left behind by DA n MS.

Gee...How did I get so Jaded in one week? LOL. Guess I just get tweaked when I realize I was lied to regarding what this game was, my intelligence was insulted, "You must be new here....'Ah huh.' ....The hostiles are at the waypoint," and to top it off...I paid for it with my hard earned money, with a stupid $##t eating grin on my face.

Post Sat Feb 21, 2004 4:44 am

Sorry for the rant

Now that I think about it... how often do you get so much enjoyment for fifty bucks? Not often... The FL experience is still pretty cool no matter how you slice it.

Still...I'm not kicking down the dough till I know I'm not being chinced on the content. When they say "Dynamic Universe," I'll be on guard and seriously sceptical.

Post Sat Feb 21, 2004 5:05 am

You know, many might think this is a biased look at FL but someone should look at the use of wording here.

"Dynamic Universe" is in fact on the FL box. THe problem is MOST people seem to have a different understanding that what is the definition of "dynamic." Here's a simple definition:

dy·nam·ic: 1. An interactive system or process, especially one involving competing or conflicting forces: “the story of a malign dynamic between white prejudice and black autonomy” (Edmund S. Morgan). 2. A force, especially political, social, or psychological. 3. Characterized by continuous change, activity, or progress. Synonyms : activating, aggressive, ballsy, changing, charismatic, compelling, driving, effective, electric, energetic, energizing, enterprising, forceful, forcible, go-ahead, go-getter, go-getting, high-powered, hyped up, influential, intense, lively, lusty, magnetic, peppy, potent, powerful, productive, progressive, red-blooded, strenuous, vehement, vigorous, vital, vitalizing, zippy. Antonyms: apathetic, boring, dead, inactive, lifeless, static, unexciting, weak

I find this interesting because it makes sense that people who do not think FL has a dynamic universe ALSO find it boring. But that doesn't mean the FL universe itself is not dynamic folks. Couple that with the fact that on the same box that has the words "dynamic universe" it also clearly states a "coherent virtual economy" so the many people that try to combine those two phrases in the past (say bah, there's no dynamic trading involed all the prices stay the same) appear to be hedging the truth a bit to back up their opinions.

Freelancer is what it is and that is different for each individual. As strong as the arguements are saying FL doesn't have this or that, by the pure definition of the words (shown in this post) used to describe it it's not very difficult to see there actually is truth in advertising...just don't try to read between the lines folks and you won't be disappointed.

well, have you noticed the games sounds are .wav files? They take up a ton of space. The game could save a lot of HD space if they were .midis or something. I never figured a game as good as this would use such a primitive sound type.

Post Sat Feb 21, 2004 10:48 pm

Stinger..I can appreciate your point. And your a good apologist for the game, but...big "but" here, the funny thing about the english language is you can't always use the dictionary to determine the 'context' of words used. Strictly speaking FL is a 'dynamic' universe. I don't have the box anymore, but I do remember the advertisements and the impression the makers of this game tried give it. If I remember correctly It said things like 'do anything' be a...'Pirate" be a "bounty hunter" be a... etc.. Now, stictly speaking, of course, we can do these things. The problem is...pretty much whichever "profession" one chooses YOUR DOING THE SAME THING! Not only that it's the same thing from level 1 to level 40. Not only that...oh I'm not going to keep this up...I stated my positions pretty clearly in the previous entries I believe and backed them up with descriptions and offered possible solutions. You can not deny that some elements of this game or so morbidly generic they can hardly be concidered dynamic in the sense of what they were conveying to us.

Ok I guess I am going to go on.......For instance: Smuggling Artifacts and Ilegal drugs is exactly the same as running Niobium or diamonds. We even sell them to the Same people on the commodities market. That's not dynamic in anyway shape or form. It's Cheese is what it is. It shows exactly the element of thegame that's woefully lacking. It is unfortunate, because certain elements of FL are fantastic.

Words and phrases have meaning beyond the dictionary definitions. And they expect us to read between the lines of vague product descriptions. A person can tell the truth yet be misleading. And I'm sorry, but that's what they did and continue to do and will continue to do. They, the Dev's at DA n the Maketers at MS can rest assured behind their legal certanty and sip martinees never batting an eye. And as long as folks just grin and bear it...and keep kicking down their money...they will not give a Rat's butt as to improving the content of future games. As much as I love the vastly improved visual effects, the content isn't all that different from the first Ultima. The "dynamic's" of the game are pretty much the same as 'Baldur's' gate. At least there are more bases and the folks on them at least are in different seats each time you visit a base, but essentially the formula is the same. With all the talent out there and the capabilities of todays computers it's nearly inexcusable. It shows a certain presumption on the developers parts that we'll just chew and swallow.

I do enjoy the game for what it is. I've been playing 'Vids' since "PONG" came out even before the ATARI version. And we've come along way baby! At the same time...the point of this post was to point out what FL is not and what it could have been.
