How extreme are shield type differences?

How extreme are shield type differences?

You know what I mean, right? Type A weapon works best against Type B shield and worst against Type C shield.

Well, I would assume that I should keep different shields in my ship so that I could switch them around depending on who I thought I'd be fighting against.

However ... do the weapons do SIGNIFICANTLY better against one type of shield vs another? Or is it just a small difference?

The reason I'm asking is because of this scenario: You could have a 3000 shield that will be harder for, say, Outcasts to damage. Or you could have a 4000 shield that would be easier for them to damage.

Should you go with the higher points or base it on the class?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I really haven't noticed much difference. Seems most ships you fly against mix their guns anyway, so I just go with the highest level shield -- regardless of type.

Yeah. The only class 10 ship in the game is the Adv. Brigandine, so if you want a VHF, that shield is what you need.

i find it more relevant in what the npcs your hunting use in relation to your own guns , some enemies i try to avoid as they take to long to kill with certain loadouts i use though i cant go into specifics as this isnt the spoiler forum

You know, when they say that a gun is better for a shield type, its not that much better. I'm talking about 10% plus or minus, so its not worth buying a new shield every time you fight a new enemy.

I thought certain weapons did 20% more/less damage against certain shield types? Here are the top dog shields available without moding............

Best Graviton
L8 Adv. Protector 5890
(Strongest: Laser/Photon/Pulse Weakest: Plasma/Particle)

Best Positron
L10 Adv. Brigandine 8280
(Strongest: Tachyon/Neutron Weakest: Laser/Pulse/Photon)

Best Molecular
L9 Barrier 6050
(Strongest: Plasma/Particle Weakest: Tachyon/Neutron)

If Laser/pulse/photon do 20% more damage to the Adv Brigande, it's still gonna give almost as good protection as the gravition shield, and better than the Molecular for it's WEAKEST WEAPON, and going to beat those shields by far for the other weapon types................

But if you have 2 different types of shields (which I do), and they're both the same class ... then what?

Does anyone know if it's 10% or 20%? Because if I knew that, I could just calculate the shield's HPs against a 20% difference due to weapon types.

As far as mixing weapons types, some enemy factions are pretty damned consistent. Personally, I like to mix types while maintaining the same speed and refire rate (I prefer 4 for that stat)... but I'm not a Corsair.

So anyway, if anyone knows exactly what the difference is percentage wise, that would help. Thanks again for the assistance, guys!

Their is only one Level 10 shield. That means if you use that one, the difference in shield strength to it's competitors makes it by far the best shield to use even if your enemies are strong against it.

But in the earlier game, you can't just buy a level 10 shield.

Anyway, even assuming I COULD buy a lvl 10 shield, I take it you know for sure that the lvl 10 vs enemies strong against that type is still better than a good lvl 9 vs enemies weak against it? How do you know this for sure? I mean, if the lvl 10 had twice the protection of the 9, it would be obvious. But if nobody is sure how extreme the difference really is ... is your experience with the shields that definite?

Look, I gave you all the stats for the most powerful shields in each class.

Weapons that hurt that type of shield the most do 20% MORE damage, and weapons that hurt that type of shield the least do 20% LESS

Do that maths, it's not difficult!

You're making this more complicated than it needs to be- when you're given a choice between multiple shield types of the same class, choose the one with the highest rating.

It's not worth swapping out for a weaker shield when only one particular faction has the weapons it counters, or when only one faction uses the weapon it is weak against.

this what I think:

if you are using class10 ship (Eagle/Titan/Sabre) use the class10 positron shield.

if you are using class9 ship (HammerHead/Cernturian) use class8 graviation shield.

I find that the strongest local shield usually works best. But do not under any circumstances get the class 9 molecular shield if you plan on fighting Outcasts and/or Corsairs. Their weapons are strong against this type of shield, and it's much cheaper to get a class 7/8 graviton shield.

Actually, it seems that its the weapons that are the differance.

U kinda get the general idea that there isn't too much of a difference. Plus on a stock server, the Advance Brigwhatever would be the best choice. If the Graviton shield was available then good get that. But it isn't

If u are really bugged by this, get one friend to buy the highest graviton shield available, one to buy the highest molecular shield, one to buy the highest positron shield, go to each, shoot them with a tizona/nomads/whatever and see which one fits u.

what about the effect of nomads/coded guns?

I think the shield type is useless agains them, so that gives the class10 shield more advantege since it gots more hit points.
