Questions

ok, I'm a FL noob I must admit... so I have a few questions regarding ships, and NPC ships.

Why do some NPC ships really put a hurt on me, and others do not? It seems that some of them really dmg my shields and others do minimal dmg.

What type of shield should I go with? i'm only lvl 8 in SP with the Cavalier.

Do CM's work on cruise disruptors?

How do you improve your faction quicker?

Any help is appreciated, Thanks in advance.

Huh? Repeat the question.

It depends on who you fighting but I would go with the most powerful you could get.

Do CM's work on cruise disruptors?

Yes but you'll have to launch it at the exact milli-second.

How do you improve your faction quicker?

By attacking the fractions enemy and paying bribes.

Any help is appreciated, Thanks in advance.

Your welcome.

I know IonBlaze just did this but it wasn't very thorough...

Different factions use different types of weapons. Some weapons are more powerful than others, and some are better against certain types of shields. For example, in Bretonia, criminal factions often use weapons that are strong against molecular or graviton shielding. In Bretonia, they sell positron shielding for this exact reason. As you reach other places, you will realize that your positron shield will be weak against future enemies. The local shield should help you with this.

You should go with the most powerful shield you can get that is not weak against enemy factions. For example, if the enemies use weapons that are strong against a shield (Press "O" to scan them to find out), then don't use that type of shield. If you find a shield that is strong or neutral to the weapons that the enemy is using, then this would be a good shield to use. Also, don't just scan one faction's weapons and base your decision on that. Find multiple enemy factions and make a decision on what the majority of their weapons are strong against.

Do CM's work on cruise disruptors?

I've never really liked countermeasures. I don't know how long they last or how exactly they work, but I have noticed that I dodge cruise disruptors about the same number of times without Countermeasures, compared to with the countermeasures. In the long run, I find that countermeasures aren't worth the effort in my opinion. They are very cheap and abundant, though, and you may want to use them. Theoretically, though, they should work on cruise disruptors.

How do you improve your faction quicker?

To become more friendly with factions, you can do many things. You can kill their enemies, complete missions for them, or pay bribes in bars. Killing their enemies is the easiest way, and is usually the best when they really don't like you. Completing missions for the faction is just like killing their enemies, but they pay you to do it and it raises your reputation with them more quickly. You need to have a fairly neutral or friendly reputation for them to offer you missions. The last way, is to pay bribes in bars. This is the fastest way, but in many ways, I find it the worst. You become friendly with that faction, but unfriendly with the faction's enemies. It also costs anywhere from 5 000 to 150 000 credits, depending on how much they like you already. I like to stay away from this one, because I don't like to be enemies with many factions at a time.

The higher the class of the NPC weapon, the greater the hurt. A Liberty Rogue isn't going to take you out as fast as a Blood Dragon, for example.

What type of shield should I go with? i'm only lvl 8 in SP with the Cavalier.

While there are different shield types, go with the highest capacity of that class. In actual practice, the graviton shields, while weaker against some weapons, have enough extra hit points that it doesn't matter anyway. This is the Protector, Guardian, Sentry, etc... series of shields.

Do CM's work on cruise disruptors?

Yes, but your timing has to be pretty good- cruise disruptors have a wide blast radius, so the countermeasure must intercept the missile pretty far out (usually just before where it would disappear).

How do you improve your faction quicker?

The fastest way, by far, is to take a bribe, but those are usually in the 10-100k price range. The second fastest would be to do a mission for that faction. The third would be to simply kill their enemies.

As far as shields go, I'd say that the Sentry Graviton lines the best. I'm pretty certain that it has the highest Capacity and Recharge Rate. Also some NPCs have better AI than the others. As well as better ships and weapons of course.

I don't know a thing about countermeasures. I've always seen them as pointless.
If you're trying to escape from people I've noiced that you can simply use your cruise over and over again until they run out of missiles. If you're flying a Cavalier then it probaly just be easier to kill them. As far as Factions go, bribes are always good. Just make sure that it doesn't affect your Rep with anyone else too badly. ie. if you're gonna bribe the Corsairs then make sure the police aren't gonna be mad at you.

if your using a standard countermeasure then launch to or three, it improves the chance of them being effective dramatically!

as for shields, get a Molecular if possible, they help in Bretonia!
