Best "small" mod to start out with?

Hi again everyone, I've finished the game and have downloaded the FLMM 1.2, and am anxious to leave the "clean gaming" behind me.
I really wanted to fly something unique, yet nothing so grande as a battle ship
(ever try docking one of these babies in a station half it's size?!)
Anyhow, I was hoping for some suggestions for mods with various ships and or add ons that would work well with the FL mod manager.
Thanks in advance everyone!

why don't you try Chip's open sp mod? You can choose any ship you want and other stuff, like having the freeport 7 system and nomad invasions.

Gimme that, you petty excuse of an officer!
Prepare for LUDICROUS SPEED!!!

for a gr8 "small" mod try hostile universe, it's only like 3.5 megs(i think) and adds a lot to the game, in ships, equiptment and commodities. It's really worth a try.

Try Bootsrap. It's like opensp only you get a complete Nav Map as well.

I'm making record time!

Another option if you want something like Bootstrap is to get the IONCROSS Freelancer Character Editor. You can have it open all the gates, showing the map option also gives you the commodity pricing. You can adjust your reputation, choose what ships and weapons to have and change your location. It's the next best thing to joining any faction you want from the start.

Setting the cruise control on my car didn't turn out at all like the F4 formation procedure! Who knew I could still plow other drivers off the road??
