Joing a Freelancer Faction

hey guys, im no noobie at this game, but 1 thing has always eluded me... its really only applicable in multiplayer side, but how the hell do u get a faction on ur name "ie: Corsair Shai_Tan" instead of Navy or blank?!?!?

Is it mission based?? loyalty??? bribery???

thanks guys

It dosen't happen... at all. It's just assumed that your alliegence is shown up on other ship's computers.

Anyway, Welcome to TLR, don't make "best ship" threads or you better have a flameproof suit, Respect Mods etc.

I'm assuming this is a LAN Match-Up .Okay, If you are:

In a Clan: Change your name to include the initials of the clan (DS_Lancer, for Lancer, Member of DarkStorm etc)

For a Group Alliegence to an NPC Company: You can't do anything here. Just play with the knowledge that you're friends are on the same side.

BTW, this should be posted in the Multiplayer Forum in future.

If you have any square brackets in your name, the Navy bit disappears! On my LAN server I'm "[Cardamine" <-- there's a square one there lol, and it doesn't show. My brother, however, is Mr_Cheese (don't ask) and his name shows up as "Navy - Mr_Cheese", when he changed his name to [MrCheese It disappeared. Strange but true . . .

*OFF TOPIC WARNING*

@Shai_Tan: Is the name 'Shai_Tan', from the Wheel of Time? Then the name should be 'Shai'tan". Now i don't know if this forum supports these (-->'<--) kind of... commas... or what it is called...

these (-->'<--) kind of... commas... or what it is called...
Apostrophe.

You are assigned a faction (usually) when you create a new character on Multiplayer (usually Navy). You fly around with that tag until you become sufficiently unfriendly with the faction. After that, it is not possible to get another tag. On Captain Tylor's FreeLancer Heaven server, you can start out with all kinds of different tags and niches.

You can change your name to a faction, just do lots of missions for them, i got mine to have Zoners on the name

It is more or less random however. I have had numerous NPC tags beside my name. My favourite was when I got the GC tag. Just me, a bunch of japanese teenage girls and some cardamine.

If you have an editor and access to the FL saved game file, then this is what you need to do. Change the number which relates to how friendly or unfriendly a faction is, by changing it to 1.0. FLSO has this capability and I often change a character or two of mine to 1.0 to the, say, Corsairs just for fun. Then you see my character name in red brackets around my ship in space if you are unfriendly with the Corsairs along with the name Corsairs by my character name. This can happen in the real FL MP game but it is difficult. You would have to do so many friendly building things for the Corsairs that eventually they may be friendly enough to be above .9 which I believe is when the faction tag is added to the character name. Good luck!

my friend had bounty hunters on his name lastnight. his rating with them isn't even green, nor is it even close to being green, its 2 bars above the true neutral line!!! :S i think its a bug now, cos he hadn't done 1 mission for them, yet he there he was, tagged up and everything...

Yup, it must be a bug.
