Did I Play Too Fast?

I enjoy this game very much, but I am wondering if I have played the single player missions too fast. I have had the game for 1 week and seem to have completed the (13?) missions already. I am at level 33. There is an awful lot of the game to still explore and I will continue to explore and also delve into multiplayer and the mods. Should I start a new game and decline Juni's very first offer of a mission? Will that take me on another game route?

Any advice for getting the most out of Freelancer?

If you decline Juni's first mission, you will not have a ship to use. But you can extend the game when Juni tells you to "Freelance a bit" to earn a lot of credits working for different factions. With only a few exceptions, you can freelance as long as you want until you meet Juni on a station/planet she tells you to. Once you arive, you have the story line mission to do before you can freelance some more.

The mods change things and make the story or open play different and open other possibilities.

I like freelanceing with the open mod myself so I can work with the blood dragons.

Decline the first mission and you don't get a ship. Cool! That should make the game a lot harder to play.

I think everybody races through the first time, trying to figure out what the mystery is. I've played the SP game through I don't know how many different times, trying to do it in different ships, exploring different systems, taking my time about going to see Juni when she calls. You can make the game slightly different each time by the way you play it. That's part of the fun.

Have you tried the Multiplayer Yet???

Run Freelance Server before you run freelancer itself.
(you must have a network card/ lan connection.
Select Multiplayer
Select your server
Just start up a new character and connect.

Voila, you have the whole universe without missions and enough money to buy a simple ship and 2 guns.
No Juni missions to do.
Build up your credits with traderuns also.
AND MINE STUFF AND SELL IT SUCH AS SCRAPMETAL, DIAMONDS, GOLD ETC.

Thank you for the advice.

Just some thoughts though...

Multiplayer must be the way to do it (get the most out of the game).

For me the single player part is fine, but too linear (I'm there 10 minutes and already the rogues hate me!!!). And, as I think I read somewhere in the forum, the game should make more time between levels. Then I would not have finished so fast. But... then there might be a chance that I would face the enemy in the last missions in an Eagle (Hmmm, I wonder... no, you have to level up and you can't if you don't do the missions). But... I wish the programmed parts of the SP game were more dynamic and realistic. Like construction on new trade lanes actually making progress (Hmmm, I wonder how long it takes to build a trade lane?)And I should be able to summon the local friendlies for help when I am jumped by bad guys (how about up to a distance of 5k?). And the dialogue between Trent and anyone else is so canned that eventually I tune the game out for that period. It becomes annoying. All game programmers have to address that character interaction issue.

I don't mind mouse flying instead of joystick control. But I switched the right mouse button firing to the #1 because it is easier for me to fly and fire at the same time without using that finger.

See you in Multiplayer!
