a bunch. Many of them are identical in everything except name. The important thing is that there are 10 levels of shields and weapons. There are several types of sheilds that are good or bad against certain weapons. There are three basic refire rates (8.33, 4.0, 2.0) and the lower firing the weapon, the higher the damage each hit does. This isn't a spoiler, it's easily figured out. It's not going to affect the outcome of his game. And if it is, I will gladly remove it. --- VH16

well lesseee, we have 3 different shiled types, and 10 levels for each, soo
probably 30 shields. tho if you include the NPC shields too, thats 60.

and I cant be bothered counting the hundreds of weapons in the game, thats somethings for you todo

Okay , three types of shields, with three different makes of, up to ten levels. That is ninety to start with. Then you have the NPC shields, of which there are three types going up to 10 levels each.

Brings it out to a nice 120 all told.

Umm...the three types are graviton, positron and molecular, the 10 levels being the class, but three different makes of each? What are you talking about?

You're all forgetting the freighter shields, wich doesn't have a class 10 type
Also the graviton VHF is the only one available at class 10, all the others (LF, HF, Positron, Molecular) arent.
I'm not sure about the NPC shields.
