Equipping Salvaged Weapons

Is there any way to equip a weapon or other piece of equipment that you have tractored in, aside from selling it to an equipment dealer and buying it back? You would really think that you could just pay someone to attach it, or something. However, I have not been able to figure out how to do this (although if you buy a new ship, and you sell the rest of your attached weapons first, you can have the new ones installed, but this isn't really a solution in most cases).

Thanks, Tom.

Ah, it took me a while to figure this out, spending hundreds of thousands of credits equipping weapons. There is a wierd box in the Upper Left corner of the weapon. An open grey means it is not equipped and cannot be equipped. A closed grey means it is equipped and cannot be unequipped (usually shows up while in space) an open blue box means it is not equipped and a blue box means it is equipped. Clicking on an open blue box will close the box and equip the weapon. Clicking on a closed blue box will open the box and un-equip the weapon.

Hope this helped.

Wow! Great answer! That is exactly the kind of advice I was looking for.

Thanks a lot, Tom.

Also, the box is only blue if there is an OPEN (aka un-used) port. Clicking a closed blue box dissmounts the item, freeing up the port. This is usefull if you don't like the ballance of colors or the way your guns look on your ships. You can un-mount and re-mount in a different order to make it look pimpin'. Also, make sure you can support the weapon. If you ship can only support level 7 weapons and you get a level 8, no ammount of weelin' and dealin' is gunna get that gun on that ship, reguardless of whether or not you go through a weapons dealer. And you can't change up weapons while in space (pretty obvious, but then again a lot of obvious things that should be in FL aren't). --- RR16

Also good advice! Without knowing this, I played through the whole story line and up to about level 30. Let me tell you, I would have enjoyed having my missles located in "adjacent" ports (which they sometimes were). And of course, it would have been nice to have some aesthetic balance to my weapon configuration! ;-)

Thanks again, Tom.

a nice feature of the gem is when you're at an equipment dealer, there are 2 small arrows beneath the little picture of the gear on the HUD pannel. This allows you to see entirely arround you ship, and was simply put in probably for the sole reason of making sure the weapons are ballanced. You're gonna spend hours looking up you ship's tailpipe, make it look nice. --- RR16

I don't like looking up the back of my ship all the time. I wish that there was a cam that was actually the vision of one of your turrets or something. Being cooped up in the cockpit makes me claustraphobic.

He means the image signatures. The "I <insert verb> with <insert TLR name>, do you?" ones.

You have to land and equip, it can't be done in space... was that your question?
