FL is best Space Action Game.

I didn't want to call FL a simulator, I reserve that for IWar2 and JumpGate.
I have played almost all of them except X2. Initially I was critical of FL, but I finished the single player campaign today, after watching Battlestar Gallactica, I have really appreciated the detail that went into FL. FL reminds me of Battlestar Gallactica in Sci-Fi. After reading the reviews of X2, I 'really' appreciate the detail and time most of all that went into FL. X2 was 2 years though, probably needed another 6 months in development. Cut scenes are horrible and excrutiatingly long.

I am thirsting for a FL expansion. I love this game. I am also a NWN player and have bought both XP1 and XP2. I wish FL would have done the same, planned on 1 or 2 expansions. I like running my own FL server, something X2 isn't able to do. I just like flying place to place, getting involved in dog fights, exploring, buying new ships. I run the Next Generation 1.7 MOD on my server, big fun!!
Anyway, I lost my original FL CD, go figure, and I bought another one for $25, it was worth it.
So, please please please, I want another SP campaign from DA or MS. Price it for $30 and I will be lining up to get it.

I agree.

I'll buy an expansion or sequel the day it comes out.

Michael King is the name of somebody in my school... seriously.

The people in FL have very limited vocabularies, most of them speak the same also, with the same voices... yes I know one guy is British and the other is Japanese but who's keeping track, eh?

@Starrider how far back do you go with Space action games? You said you have played almost all of them, when did you start?

Same here, I wonder if the expansion would be as good as some of the fan-based mods though ?

Why wait download it here

http://www.iancgbell.clara.net/elite/pc/index.htm

afterall the whole game is only 150Kb (isn't it amazing what decent programmers can put in a few bytes compared to nowadays bloatware)

I know you have to remove the refrigerator door when placing it at the curb , but then the neighbours kid would get away for sure , damn moral dillema's

Tnx, I'll try it when I get home

sorry nick, I got busy and totally forgot. Its only 49Kb by the way (aaaah they don't make em like that anymore). One thing to bare in mind though, its pretty slow going in comparison to games nowadays, so give it a chance. It takes some getting used to...but its worth it in the end for the trading alone. If you're not sure what to do, the F* Keys are pretty self explanatory...

Quick start guide...(keys are vague but you'll get the idea)

Buy something (F3 or F2?!), choose a system within range to you (F8 or F7) and has an opposite political frame (ie. agricultural/technological etc - avoid anarchy systems to start with), Launch using F1, "H" to hyperspace over there...aim for a planet, or if you can't see one turn your back to the sun, "J" to jump towards the planet....look for the orbiting space station, attempt to dock. Repeat until you get used to docking (frustrating at first). Ignore the basic crappy graphics and try to get a feel for the game itself. It took me almost 2 years of solid play to make elite, so bare that in mind if you think you're not getting anywhere!

Enjoy!

Elite is fun to play since you'll see how much an influence it had on all other space games. The graphics are kind of simple -- hey, it's 20 years old -- but the concepts are so much like even Freelancer. You may even want to read the great short story that goes with it. Really got you eager to begin.

Start carrying cargo until you can get some decent guns. (Mining lasers are cool and cheap). Then you can get a bit more adventurous. And your rating depends on combat, not money as in FL. Makes a bit more sense that way.

p.s. Now you know how us old f*rts wasted our time years ago.

Has anyone made a Battlestar Gallactica mod? A little off topic, but I really don't feel like searching all those downloads (i'd much rather fly a viper). --- RR16
