Cockpits in Screenshots

While I'm posting new topics, some of the screenshots on this site from inside cockpits have HUD's that look different. They also appear to have some "radar" device, indicating the position of ships all arround them. This isn't in FL, so I'm wondering are the pictures from an earlier version that never made the market or are they from starlancer (I never played it so I wouldn't know). I don't know Maybe my version's just f*cked up. --- RR16

Early model. Looks at some of the early FL pics and you'll see that even the characters look different.

I wish they didn't remove the radar though.

Most likely reason for leaving out the radar was that it made the screen too cluttered. Still, it would be nice to know what is going on around you. Those little arrows sort of help, but don't really take the place of a radar screen.

I like the arrows better. I find a radar in space confusing because I'm never sure what up, down, left, right are on the radar.

but it's kinda 2 dimentional anyway.. i mean.. in free flight, you always spin the right way "up" when you turn mouse flight off ( or let go of the left mouse button if you fly that way.. )

so you could have a flat disk that rotates to show direction and tilts to show position relative to the "right way up.."

and then little up / down arrows to show above or below the player and a dot for on the same level..

I found the radar in Starlancer confusing but when I really needed it, it was there for me. Too bad it wasn't kept in and you could minimize it with the backspace key. That would have been nice.

kind of reminds me of Robotech for xbox

The fact that there is a right way up in Sirius makes logistical sense. When integrating all these stations and plannets, a Universal Upright Position is essential, or else ships would try to land and dock with trade lanes sideways, something which makes crashes more likely. Just saying is all. --- RR16

Not just that, but in a real solar system, everything is on a centeral plain, spinning in the same direction. Even the entire Galaxy (Milky Way, or however you spell it).

The radar is be oriented acording to your ship. The arrows move up and down on the radar (3 dimentionally) with a line leading back to the plain your ship is currently on while also moving right and left. Like a hologram. So up on your radar is relative to your ship. Thats how the Starlancer one worked anyway...

If anyones everplayed Battlezone 1 or 2, then maybe the radar would work like that. Your ship comes up as a green dot and enemies red, (i think you get the point, that color coding has always been the same) and if you do below the central disc or plane, then your square (or something signifing your ship) would move down, with a line following it down, and vice-versa (move up, the line follows you up)
