Hey everybody. Freelancer has been out for a while now an dI am looking for a space RPG or MMO that is like Fl. Any suggstions. Oh and please, no 1995 arcade games.
Check out other types of games. I myself love the worms serries, and would highly recomend it. Also, age of empires, rise of nations, and Halo would top my list. Check out Amazon.com and search for FL. They'll have a list of games that other people who searched for FL looked at, if they still have it (it was a sad day when I walked into Target and FL wasn't there). --- RR16

Hardwar, if you can find it. (Came out about 1999. Big website dedeicated to it.) Sort of like FL on a planet -- one of the moons of Jupiter. You start with a small ship, try to upgrade and arm it ... and eventually get off of the moon your ancestors have been stuck on for centuries. Be a trader, pirate, scavenger or bounty hunter.
Homeworld and its sequel -- not Freelancerish, but great space games.

Most space sim games have been linear. TTF is a lot like FL, if you know this trick:
The way to explore on your own is to do this after missions.
Certain jump gates are open, depending on the location of the mission.
There IS space salvage (no wrecks tho) and trading if you know how/where.
Then there's the casino....

Yeah, I had the same problem....trying to look for a game like Freelancer after playing it for so long. I found that X2 and Independence War 2 really weren't my thing. I like the concept of Privateer, but I just can't get into a game with retro graphics...I know, I'm spoiled! Anyways, I just went back to playing FPSs and RPGs until another simulator like Freelancer comes out.

FL is part of the creme a la creme of space sims. Break out and try other stuff. You'll be plesantly surprised. Besides, I don't think MS or DA has any plans for a FL2 or any game allong those lines. Don't hold your breath. --- RR16
