Most people with this problem have it cuz they installed the 1.1 patch, which is
ONLY for servers , even tho the page says:

"There is really no need to install the update unless you are running a server or are unable to play multiplayer because you can't get an ID."

The wording should be a little stronger, as in DON'T unless these two conditions are present!

That "need mission" message is probably just a bug. If you ignore it and go blow up some bad guys or even take any mission available, it should go away sooner or later. After you finish the SP game, there are no more required missions!

Yeah I know that. But I've finished many misc missions on many planets (within bars) and nothing. As far as I'm concerned I haven't got patch 1.1 installed. Do you know is any setting of level in Win's registry?

Your current level is saved in a file not in the registry, if u want u can download the IONCROSS Freelancer Character Editor mk.V which is a save game editor.

what's with that game? first that sound-bothering problems, then this annoying bug. i know that some people have this bug - they're rank is of 27th level and don't want to raise (now I have 9mln of credits, and still - there is a message "Mission" in the field "Next rank requirements". PLEASE HELP!!!

Forget single player, go multiplay and join a server. It's alot more interesting than flying around by yourself and trading with simple AI programming.

Go to the commodity dealer, fill up your hold with anything, and then sell it right back again.

This normally fixes the problem (95% of the time)

Reïnstall FL and just load the savegame. If it still won't go up, then buy/sell something like Bogsnot said.

@krk easy way to do that is by giving yourself a million or more credits! then when u load it will up it for u.

still these clues do nothing.

I've already reinstalled FL couple of times, buying and selling things at commodity dealer (in Bogsrot's way), reloading load games (as Deftrem has written) . I'm having now 2.1mln credits (not the value of 'Worth", but my cash to spend(t?)). Still 27th level of rank, still "Mission" in requirements. I'm tired with all of this.

Got me stumped! I assume you've checked on the Technical Issues forum on this?

Did the same thing for me - SP, no mods, no patch. Go do some trading and it'll fix itself when you've made enough money (doing missions takes too long, IMHO).

Think you're screwed over, my friend. Join a server and start over. It's fun, until the server goes offline and you loose your character, especially when you had just gotten enough credits to buy a Sabre with fully beefed up weapons and you wanted to terrorise the online world just to see it all dissapear before your very eyes because the stupid server folks wanted to run one for next generation, as if the Un-modded game wasn't good enough for them!!! Frobott had right - problems with experience occurs with the patch 1.1. Long ago I've installed that patch, but with next reinstallement of FL I did not install patch.
Now to all who have this problem - install FL, install patch 1.1, then go with Bogsmot way (buy in CDealer, then QUICK sell it back). In my case it worked. Thanx to all of you.
