if you have good quality joystick then u can map the controls to the stick...

thrustmaster and saitek have their own software dont they???

Post Mon Nov 10, 2003 7:57 pm

that is quit a bit less then perfect with a joystick the guns should be auto aim or hardmounted and the turrents would have to be auto aim (like they should anyways) for the game to be good to play with a joystick.

Post Mon Nov 10, 2003 8:19 pm

so what u are saying is you are too lazy to aim and fly for yourself...you just wanna sit back and press the button??? i think u should go buy a PSX2 or xbox.

Post Mon Nov 10, 2003 8:55 pm

No, auto aim is when the guns hit the target when you shoot near them.

Why auto-aim? Most people can get around just fine *coughmechwarrior4playerscough* without an auto-aim function on their sticks.

And it's turret not turrent

For Freelancer to be anything but annoying with a joystick the guns have to be fixed, non of this girly range of movement the guns have now, also it would help if turrets had the ability of auto-fire, like in XWA, hardly accurate, but certainly helps when you have to concentrate on dogfighting rather then aiming your single rear facing weapon. Freelancer would also need some roll capability, rather then just using the space bar to turn yourself upright. So long as these needs are met and the joystick is responsive and accurate I'd never use the mouse again.

I agree completly with Kheiron.

perhaps the turrets should be auto tracking on the freighters, BUT certainly not on the fighter.

btw, on some light fighters the guns ARE fixed....but there is no problems with the guns moving slightly.....you should be aiming with the point not the gun nozzle

this is bordering on a joystick vs mouse argument so be careful!

I'm a fan of the mouse system, but I would be interested in having a go at freelancer with 2 joysticks...1 for flight, 1 for guns....that would be quite funky I think.

personally I think the most fun way to play is to play with my wacom a4 graphics tablet that makes for interesting play...

@gromit - how can you play with a graphics tablet? it sounds awfully confuzzling lol

Nothing should be auto-aim that isn't already. Nothing. End of story. It's not that hard...look, it even gives you a lead indicator! Match up your projectile speeds and that's all she wrote! The only weapons which should have any sort of homing devices are missiles and mines...and they already have that.

To author of topic: Cool....time to hook up my Sidewinder and enable that hidden roll feature...

@cardamine its actually really good fun... i do it when i'm bored...the tablet can respond to touch as a left click, so that solves all of the movement (and I can turn quicker than anyone because I just have to touch the left of the palette for it to flip around)...there's also a button on the pen which you can set to double click or right click, so that solves all of the firing too. Takes a bit of getting used to...but because I use a tablet instead of a mouse normally anyway in every day life, i've become quite good at it.
