Some tend to hit them as they follow you...

Others tend to hit them as they pass you by...

Some NPC's suddenly stop, turn around and fly away...wich is stupid, cause now you can drop a mine up his ass...

It can also be used for taking down stationairy objects: stations/shieldgens/weaponplatforms/battleships

too much detail on thier use and individual attributes ie homing/drone etc would be a spoiler but suffice to say a well timed mine can be devastating

Mines work both ways...better not drop em while turning sharp or flying @ low speeds..

Mines work with magical space faries that carry it to the target and with the help of dwarves, they explode into nothingness. Those same space faries make viagra.

drop a mine and make the enemy ram into you.

i don't use mines. There too hard to use and the launchers are too expensive. i prefere to shoot the hell out of them or use missiles.

To put this simply:

Mines work by going boom and causing damage.

Mines are good for dogfighting pilots who think because they have a titan and level 10 weapons, they will win a fight. When you've taken out your enemy's shield, fly head on towards it (try avoid fire power) then as you are about to fly slightly under the enemy deploy the mine, and they'll wonder what him 'em.

mines are stupid i fight with my guns and usually completely forget that they are there waiting to be use along with torpedos and counter mesures

I use them all the time, allong with missiles. I find the AI will tend to fly straight for you. Take out the shield with your guns, fire a missile, start vering away out of their firing line and deploy a mine. Then press 'B'
