I should know by now but........

I've been playing quite a while now but cannot find a way to drop cargo for the hell of it without being challenged first. For example pick up 40 waters to top off capacity during battle, but the next ship drops H fuel. Can I select the water dump it, target and tractor the H fuel. I know I can select what I tractor initialy, but sometimes just 'B' the lot in the heat of battle and end up with junk, while diamonds and H fuel just float away never to be seen again.

If you throw enough mud ..some's gonna stick.

Yes, you can select and drop cargo. While in flight, select your cargo, highlight an item. Theres a small barrel icon, top right corner of the cargo itself. Just click. Hope this helps.

Be forewarned - in most, but not all ships, your shields will be down for about 30 seconds while your ship jettisons the cargo.

If you're in a safe spot when you do it, you might want to hit 'H' to go to turret mode to look around... it sometimes looks kinda cool to see your cargo bay open itself up and spit out some cargo.

If you can't read this, then you're probably illiterate and have no idea what I'm saying anyway.

30 seconds?! I find my shields go down only for about 5 or 6 seconds. Is it different for different ships? I never noticed. It seems to always take about 5 seconds.

Perhaps I am caught in some temporal flux or something. Can anyone verify this?

Think someone is misjuding the time. For all the ships I have flown there is no way it has taken over 10 secs from shield down to shield up. That said dumping cargo while in a tradelane is a nice and safe place to dump. Not so much if you want to change out one type of cargo for another.

When I was flying a drake (NICE agile fighter!), the shields didn't drop at all to jettison cargo... there also wasn't an animation of cargo bay doors opening, so that may be why - maybe it's just externally stored or something on such a small craft.

I only said 30 seconds as an estimate... I never bothered to time it.

are you sure you were not in some sort of mod or cheating?

Also note that while the cargo screen is on display and your shields are down, you will quite often be jumped by baddies! At least this happens to me, since I'm usually dumping some low value cargo to suck up something much better. Then it's panic time as you start pushing buttons and trying to regain control before you get blown up!

I've never used mods or cheats.

if you jettison say 10 different things at once, it takes quite a while for it to all come out.

Griffon is this based on Freelancer or a Sampler at a local restraunt?
