Has anyone ever lvl''d up from 17 to 38

I was quite surprised when that happened to me late last night..errr ummm early this morning(2AM). Was playing thru for the 2nd time but using INI edits this time(didn't get blasted apart so often) and flew the Defender the whole time. I also got a couple of double lvl ups during the storyline--1 for completing the story line mission and another when you were cut loose to freelance for awhile.I was at lvl 17 with just over 4 mil in credits when I finished the last storyline mission. When the storyline cut you loose to be a freelancer again, I got lvl'd up to 38. I find that strange as like most people have when I palyed it through the first time you got to the point it said you needed mission to level up and the storyline missions are done. Oh well, go figure.

**OOPS*** after posting and then reading it through again, this maybe should have been in the spoiler forum---sorry about that.

That’s quite normal, during the SP story your level is decided by which missions you have completed, after the story has finished, it goes by the amount of cash you have. $4M is more than enough for level 38 so it will jump straight up.

i try to do it all the time

After i finished for the first time i got some double levels on excedingly profitable smuggling runs

It's a shame that there's no level above 38. Microsof should have made the ammount necessary to advance exponentionally greater each time for infanite levels. They'd unlock no new weapons or ships, just bragging rights on this site. Anyone got a mod for that? --- RR16

My understanding is that they wanted to keep FL to one CD. Thus the odd ending with Juni et al. If the stories are true, maybe they could make FL II just by putting back what they took out to make it fit on one CD.

@LEV38 Eagle----you made a good point about the missions and I loaded that save game to check that-I had 59 total missions and BTW my net worth was 4mil+ with 2.1mil+ as credits. My bad on that one.

@Warlord Bob---I must keep that in mind when I start game over again and limit the amount I make as I had planned on playing through to lvl 38 as a smuggler and fight the navies and police, oh well.

I agree with RR16 that there should be life after 38

The level system is my only complaint with the game, I'm 38 and still have not been everywhere yet.

i'm at lvl 38, with about $5mil credit, but i can't get jobs in the outer systems. says i need to come back when i'm a more advanced pilot. how do you get more advanced after lvl 38?

fldaddyo, this happened to me as well when I had installed the server patch (I run a server for me and my brother on my notebook). But I was forewarned and made copies of all files replaced by the patch, and so I could remove the patch quickly without reinstalling. After reverting to the unpatched game the problem went away.

I also accumulated several millions during the campaign. Once during the fun run (see thread Plan for a maximum-fun campaign), and later I wanted to give the Dagger a spin and so I started a new campaign and took the Dagger for a grand tour of Sirius right after mission 4. I skipped the Omicrons and three other high-radiation/high-danger systems (Omega-11/41, Tau-37) but I went everywhere else and took a mission from every base that would give me one. I also hit every lucrative wreck on the way and so I had not only about 100 missions and 1500 kills but also $2 million in the bank before I went to mission 5.

Being rich during the campaign has the advantage that the enemies drop a lot of high-level weapons. Got plenty of class 6 Stealthblades from the story enemies, but also kit that was higher than class 6 (like Hornvipers from the Rheinlanders). The story Nomads never dropped anything else than nanos/batts but during the free time after mission 7 I got a Nomad Energy Cannon when I fetched the Ripper mines in Omicron Alpha (in a 'cuda, not the Dagger!).

EDIT - had forgotten to paste the URL.

Yah, with...
Eagle - 2nd Best ship
4 Nomad Energy Cannons
2 Warn Type 2
And a coplete neural net.
Due to the fact I am modding, not playing currently, Im only worth 6 000 000+.

The eagle is the best ship! not the second best!
