Anyone know of a good joystick patch?

Anyone know of a good joystick patch?

I tried the Joy2Mouse one, but it only worked on the desktop.

Anyway, I am not interested in playing Freelancer with a mouse. Too much wrist strain and overly complicated flight method for me. Otherwise a great game tho, so if anyone knows of a method I can use a joystick to pilot the spaceships, please reply.

Thanx,

Belter John

I considered using a joystick for Freelancer at first, but now i've gotten used to
using the mouse and will stick with it.
But i have used RBJoy to program mousemovement to joystick-axes in
other games with excellent results.
(RBJoy can also be used to program keypresses to joysticks/wheels/pads. A
great piece of software really).

It takes some getting used to the interface, if you need help with it just post
here and i'll try to assist.

I'd love to try my joystick on freelancer... I paid $100 for the damned thing and haven't really had a chance to try it yet.

Yeah, I know Juni's not real, but she's got a nice butt anyway.

Thanks, I will try it. Mostly have problems with mouse-flying due to a wrist injury and a joystick relieves most of the stress involved.

There is a guy who plays FL who has only one arm.

Anyway, I like the mousecontrol, but I'm sure it sucks when you're wrist is busted

I too would have rather used a joystick and almost didn't buy FL because it didn't support a joystick. I didn't much care having to fire missles, torps, disruptors from the keyboard when I could just hit button 4 and 5 on the joystick but what I missed the most was the dead zone of the J/stick to level your ship. What DA says about all computers come with a mouse is true and if you like game playing useing a mouse that's your choice but using a joystick is more realistic. Can you imagine a F-14 pilot using a mouse to manuver his jet. My opinion for what it's worth.

*Now where is that old 3 button mouse--might be able to set middle button to fire missles. Aww but then I would have to ball around and clean it from time to time.*

Amen, amen. God my wrist hurts! I wear a brace now.

Here's another RBJoy site:

Anyone got map/script config files, send it there ( and to me too! )

I tried Freelancer with a joystick and it sucks beyond belief. You can’t reverse the mouse axis in the game, so the joystick works backwards (push the stick forward and you go up, pull back and you go down; it’s backwards). Which means it sucks. It works but it sucks. Did I mention it sucks?

A script file for RBjoy won't do much good unless both have the same joystick.

And Holliday: With RBJoy you can specify what mouseaxis direction you want
mapped to a specific joystick axis, and also how sensitive it should be...

I might try it out just to see how it feels.

It will still suck, just in the right direction. You forget, it won't self center, which is a deal breaker.

Well i gave it a try, but you're absolutely right Holliday. The fact that it doesn't
self center is ruining it completely!
You can probably learn to deal with it, but it will never be comfortable and i
doubth you'll ever be half as good as with the mouse.

When flying slowly it felt quite good, and i was in control. Real nice...
But trying to do some advanced manouvers with afterburner engaged would
have made me a laughing stock if seen. I was all over the place... :-)

A well, back to the mouse.

I use a wireless track ball and Wingman Strike Force 3D

Each joystick axis can be programmed for several keystrokes so you could even use the twist or throttle if you want.

Also several keystrokes (including pauses) can be programmed to a single button.
It is nice to jump out of cruise and target closes enemy at the same time. Or how about using one button to drop mines, use countermeasures, or fire guns and missles at the same time.... or how about nano bots and shield battery deployment ....

There are numerous combinations that are a lot easier than trying to use just a keyboard and mouse.

Last but not least .... "Mouse Flight" sucks!!!! You can cover a lot more of the screen buy flying with one hand and using the other to aim and shoot.
For instants, you can bank hard left and aim far right instead of you ship following where you are aiming.

It takes tons of practice gut it is worth learning new skills.

Alright, enough about joystick support or patches and such. We have had plenty enough discussions about this very subject in the past. Besides, shouting things like "mouse flight suck !!!!" isn't getting you anywhere either, so *Click*
