There should be a playable demo released about the same time as the game is released so probably in middle/late october, and hopefully that will give a good taster of the way the game will play.

And yes they are "slow" games. There is no quick fix and a plot that can be played out in a few hours. It takes time to get really built up in the X series, but this is something that appeals to most of the players. In X2 apparently there are going to be various start positions so if you want you can start better equipped and with more credits than the basic start point.

If you liked X-btf and X-tension then chances are this will be for you. If not then who knows but its probably worth a look. If you haven't played either then give it a shot and you never know....you might like it

I'll be looking for it. I liked the others. But X-BTF took days of play just to be able to buy ANY upgrade. More like flying in space in real time. Great graphics though. And I liked the variety of alien types. Overall a much lower key game than FL -- no constant battles every few minutes. In fact, no combat for maybe weeks. I found that out the hard way when I tried to battle when still to under-equipped. It's more of a trading game than a combat sim. Definitely won't appeal to a lot of FL fans for that reason.

What can we mod for that new game? Importing new ships would be nice.

If its anything like the old one then ship models and skins are pretty much fixed. People have managed to hack parts of the code to create ships that were originally in game but could not be owned by players, but this was by altering the various parts of an existing ship, rather than putting in a completely new one.

You will be able to script your own AI but thats probably about it. Egosoft dont seem to encourage modding. I dont know why as its certainly given life to other games far beyond that of the original.
