The simplest way is to bribe people, namely bartenders. A bribe to help your rep with the Outcasts can be found on Freeport 10 for example, and the corsair bribe can be found on Freeport 5 and 9.

(These are not the only such bribes for these factions, just the ones i know off the tops of my head)

Another way to do it is to blast the **** out of thier enimies. for example, killing corsairs will help your rep with the Outcasts, and vise-versa.

Bribes are a quick (though expensive) way of adjusting one's reputation but the effects are pretty drastic. You can do minor adjustments easily by blowing up ships or depots belonging to enemies of the faction whose favours you desire, and quite often even the criminals have enemies that are criminals. So you can get factions like the Outcasts or the Corsairs to like you without getting on the bad side of the lawful factions.

kill stuff not including the faction you're trying to get to.

If you wanna befriend the Corsairs, then do what I did and kill Hessians. The Corsairs liked me instantly when I did so...
