Another FL2 sugestion

Hi all.

While doing screen caps, a thought ocurred me: wouldn't it be fun to have a VIDEO recording of the flight? I think some old flight simulators had such an option...

We'd turn it on or off at will, thus saving say, parts of a fight. I'd love to see again a fight I had in which an enemy fighter played ping pong with 3 asteroids...

Tie Fighter had that, but it was pretty bugged. Would be a good idea though. (And aunique one I think!)

If it wasn't for the inky blackness of the night you wouldn't appreciate the brilliance of the stars...

that would be great, but it would use a lot of memory, i think. it also might not work for multiplayer

Oh No!!! not another one...Oh wait, this is actually a good one, hmmm.
Video rec's of our best ships or our finest battles and putting them online and showing them off, sounds good.
Ofcourse you'd need a good compression for those who have crappy connections (like me )

Well, those with the game would be able to work with the game's film format and view such films natively, which would be vastly less data than any digital image encoding--and allow such tricks as switching camera angles and such during replay. (Some past sims even allowed the viewer to jump into the action at any point in the film.)

Ideally the "edited" films could then be exported to Quicktime, MPEG-2, and/or Windows Media for mundane viewing.

I have a feeling this disappeared from sims in recent years because only a few people would really have utilized it, and it was felt that the resources would be better spent on more eye candy.

Isn't there a recorder available that runs simultaniously (what a word) with the game?
