Forgive mine ignorance, but I'm really really new to Modding, having oinly tried rebalance. Could someone please fill me in a little with regards to HU? Contents etc??? Thanks

Looks good, having a new campaign and everything. Bit Babylon 5 heavy on the ships though? Well, after I've played Rebalance to Death I'll try this one. I lik the idea of a more "Complete Mod" instead of a "Set cruiser speed to 3000" type one. Makes it worth while. If they;re working on expansion packs they should be testing some of these out, they'd learn a lot!

I GET THROWN OUT OF THE GAME! it's not fun at all. i just installed the hostile universe, and after mission 8 i took a kill-ships-mission from the kyoto base (dragons).

i get to destroy two of the first three ships. then the third
ship flees to a group of three others. and when i destroy
that perticular ship, i get thrown out of the game.

please? help?

Whilst you can play HU and replay the single player campaign, I do recommend people play the campaign to the end before installing HU because Hu increases the difficulty a bit.

As for NEW campaigns.

The last thing I wanted was a second campiagn that ends when you finish the last mission. Ive taken a much more open ended approach to the same campaign idea. So the missions are infinately repeatable and available on and off line.

Dont expect HU to lead you by the hand through all the missions. Nor should you expect HU to hand all the missions to you on a plate. You have to explore to find the missions clues and take it from there. Like the original games Outcast leaders missing son news item on Malta. A 6 million reward for his return.

You wont see that news item in new york and you should not expect all Hostile universe plot lines to start and end in Newyork either.

Explore, conquer, trade!

The typical player who will enjoy Hostile Universe V8 are the ones who like a challenge and know how to explore and find the goodies ive hidden all over the universe. Bars are invaluable for this, as is checking the info cards on anything you find.

BTW, the players you will meet in one bar that you may have played against online are not actually the real players, they just submitted their names and stuff they wanted to say to the players and i added them as new characters in Hostile Universe. Just thought id get that out of the way before anybody asks how i got real player to player bar chats going, I didnt.

However it does tell you the sort of attention to detail I given HU and in what areas HU differs from normal mods. You see these areas are linked to the new features so simply reading the plots, clues and news will actually introduce you to Most of the new stuff eventually. Providing you dont dismiss what is said to you as just bar talk. Coz it is not. Well some of it is

I've been playing HU V8 today and it's a blast. I started a new game and was immediately annililated by the Snubfighters, Justice Mark One's don't cut It. Any how at part 5 I went oopen SP1.1 to travel around a bit. The new thrusters, shields and ships bring back memories of past Sci fi shows. Vorlon Ships,grreat. I tried different levels from past saves and got some new missions with Quintaine and Loki. Bigger Battles, more stuff everywhere to find.

Those snubs are bad
To bad the game crashes when I try to buy one

But this is truely a mod I'm happy with. It makes Liberty just a bit more of a challenge, but it doesn't over do it like TNG for instance.
I like New Mars with the Sledgehammer 'R Us and Grey 17 (what's with the fly-tru btw?)

Great mod, keep it up!

Oh, one request, I don't know if it's possible, but can you change the Freelancer 1-1 in to something different?
In MP it's possible, so why not in SP?

Ok, then I'll just be the first to place my findings/bugs/strange discoveries here:

I mailed this part to Giskard, but he didn't reply, maybe this will attract his attention

- Game crashes when I select the Snubfighter to buy.
- Typo in the discription of the Thunderbolt. ".., it's effectiveness was against ground targets was thus proven."
- West Point Academy, No comodities for sale. Is that Correct?
- Why can I buy a Heavy Fighter, or a Freighter powerplant for my light fighter?
- Wilberry shipyard also sells no comodities.
- I take a mission from HG and have to go to New Mars >> New London >> Cambridge >> Omega 5 >> Omega 11. When I jump from Omega 5 to 11 the game crashes. Now, this was when I was level 7, right before mision 4, maybe that has something to do with it. And also Omega 11 was the only none storyline system in this string.
Next I load Autosave wich puts me in Omega 5 (last jumphole exit), then I load a previous save and the game crashes again.
I restart FL and load the previous save and there is no problem.
- The mission waypoint system is screwed up in New Mars and Hyperspace.
- I love how the Hyperspace system looks
- Yet another crash. I took a mission from HG (but I don't think that's relevant) to kill a man from Kishiro in the New Mars system (I checked the system before I accepted the mission ) He's not at the waypoint so I kill the first two out of three man that are there (his cronies). The third flees to a next waypoint. Nothing new here, but I kill him before he gets to the waypoint and then the game crashes. (sound prob?)
- No problem reloading Autosave this time though.
- Does it again Luckily the autosave drops me off just after I accepted the mission, so I can try it over and over again
Tried to weaken the same guy that crashed the game before, but killed him instead.
- Okeey, this time it crashed after the second kill. Your guess is as good as mine
- Well, I was able to get to the second waypoint, but the target wasn't there again, so I killed the third guy, wich I spared to get to the second waypoint and it crashes again. (aaaaargh!!!)
- I give up! It all seems to hang on one dude. If you kill him, the game crashes.

This is a second part, wich noone but me has seen:

- Typo in the Galaxy Transport infocart: "...feels like a brick is you hit one."
- I noticed there is no moring fixure on planet New Mars.
- I docked with Gray 17. Usually you dock at one of the 8 docks of that long rectangle base thingy. That always works. But somehow, this time I docked with the front base (The one like Fort Bush) and I can't esc the dockingscene and I see myself entering the base, the screen goes black and I can't do anything anymore. F1 turns up the menu with the docks in the background, but I can't do anything.
I had to reload my autosave to get out of it.
- Btw, I just flew straight through Grey 17. That's great!
- When I accept mission 4 the game crashes.
- I tried again today (one day later) and no probs accepting mission 4 this time.
- No, instead it crashes when I leave Manhattan ????
- Crashes before I even get the chance to leave Manhattan.
- I think it has something to do with the fact that I used IONCROSS Freelancer Character Editor to change the name of my character. It somehow changed all of the factions to neutral.
I'll just try an earlier save.

As you can see, a lot of minor sh*t, but also a problem I encountered while using IONCROSS Freelancer Character Editor when I wanted to change the name of my character, not realising it was meant to be for MP

Things are actually running smooth now and I found some great stuff out there.

Giskard, I hope you read this and I hope this helps making the mod even better.

I have HU 8.0. I really like th mod.
The game works great when doing SP missions, but sometimes when I accept a mission from the bar, in the middle of a firefight the game crashes. Sometimes a lot of action is going on, sometimes very little, and sometimes it is isn the exact same place in the battle. I have finished the SP campaign and when doing missions it crashes. WHY? I have 512k memory and 1.9 Mhz athlon GForce 3 ti500, lots of hard drive space. It is not my system, it is the mod.

I just noticed HU 8.1 on the HU home page.
What are the changes in it? They were not listed with the download. Anyone know?? Will they fix this mission crashing?

Wow, You are getting things good

I know what you mean with the "Hmmm...Lets make one same mod after another"

And I've seen too many Uber Ships mods, which I'm planning not to do.

We need to talk, as I've got special plans for My Mod, and If you have special plans, I don't want us getting the same in each mod!!

Should have been keeping an eye on this one...

The mission crashing bug is releated to 3d sound when you have directx9.0a or b
dont ask me how what when where or why, it just does. Disable 3d sound in the options, and that should fix the problem

Just my $0.02, but it could just be the cardamine talking.
Violence isn't my only option. Its just what I do best.
