Why cant I dock a ship and store it.

Why cant I dock a ship and store it.

I really like this game. But they have got to make it so you can own two or more ships at a time. Take now for instance I own the Titan, but would like to make some drug runs in a Humpback.

Is it possible for a mod to fix this. Or do we have to wait for the next Version?

Allegedly, MonkeySoft wanted to keep the game to just one CD. Too bad you can't even leave stuff with your "uncle" Richard Winston Tobias. :-(

p.s. Try HARDWAR, if you never have. The game takes place on one of Jupiter's moons -- and you actually can buy a base to keep ships and sell the goodies you have salvaged. (It came out around 2000.) It has a "mystery" to solve too... and it is 2 CDs long.

If you docked a ship and stored it, what would you fly away in

Post Tue Jul 15, 2003 5:47 pm

If that were the case, you would have to go back to home base to switch ships...in which case it would be very difficult to buy a new ship, because there'd be no one to fly the old one home...unless you could order any ship from home base and have it fly there, or somehow tow your old ship back and keep it. Or hire a pilot to fly it back for you. Either way, it would be extremely difficult to aquire more than one ship anyway. Unless the game gave you the base level ship of each class by default, and you could trade each one in for its upgrade.

Although I do admit it would be cool, it would be too hard to implement.

Reaper: $200,000,000.
Rockets: $100,000
The look on that pilot's face when you launch a full pod of screamers up his tailpipe: priceless

Why would it be so hard to make it so you can have a little base of your own? So that you could hord ships, guns and whatever else you got your hands on? You know a place to call home.

This game definataly has some room for improvment. I havent ever played a game quite like this one before.

I am really into the Mechwarrior games and the C&C series.

I'm not the first to say this, but it's appropriate.

This is Freelancer, not Garagelancer.

So what are you saying? That there is no room for improvement? Just because I would like to be able to store a ship or two doesn’t mean you would have to use it.

IMO It would be nice to have a place to come back too. You know head out on a long mission. Collect stuff and head home. Repeat as necessary.

And what's really stopping your enemies to destroy your little garage? you can of course buy/build a garage in a friendly area where your allies can cover your ass. But the way the storyline takes you in your search to find better ships, you're going to have to piss off your erstwhile allies, and you'll be sent packing. So now you'll ask a game feature that allows you to haul your base/mothership to a more friendly area. And your other ships need hauling too, so we'll need merc pilots for hire to follow you to your new home system.

So let's see, we need a game that allows you to:
1. build/rent/buy your own base
2.commandeer a mothership/navigable starbase
3. hire pilots to defend/move your other fighters

It really does not sound anything similar to Freelancer anymore.

<< This is Freelancer, not Garagelancer. >>

When you are worth millions, it's a bit odd that you can't even have more than one ship. Bet Bill Gates owns more than one car.

I don't know if you ever played Tachyon, but that game had a great system for owning multiple ships. Insead of a home base, you just selected a ship to fly (i.e. all of your ships were at every base). Not the most realistic system, but then Freelancer isn't exactly the epitome of simulation either.

Tachyon was a good game; if it's free-flight mechanics weren't busted, I'd probably still be playing it.

Why couldnt you have a place to park a ship on a planet? I see your point about how if you ruined your rep with that planet you might be screwed out of what ever you had park there though. None the less I still think it would be nice if they could work it into the game some how.

And about hauling your base, if its dockable, its indestructable, HAHAHA.
Imagine owning your very own indestructable base, whose weaps you get to man.

And if in enemy space, so what! Buy another. scatter them everywhere!

I had another thought, if you could mess with the limit on how much you can be worth. . .
Imagine being rich enough to say, " Send me another order of 25 robotic upgraded Titans, I feel like practicing with my private battleship for a few minutes, take it out of petty cash. . "

Ordering shield batts in ten thousand unit lots.

having your very own battle fleet.

Wiping out Rhineland's Battle Fleet.

You very own trading company, or two, or ten.

There is many benefits to being rich.

what about buying Gaia?
