Pretty self-explanatory. I was just wondering how many times people have died playing the SP campaign. I think the most I have died was maybe 3 or 4 times throughout the entire storyline (playing 'normally', not super hard, not super easy, no changes to game files, etc.) We have all heard what factions are hated/liked the most, so I was hoping that maybe some people would like to share their experiences, be it flying headlong into a fray of nomads in your decked-out starflier or smashing into a planet or sun because it was your first day using the "go to" function
I've only ever smashed into planets because I had set Go To and walked away. When I use the 1200 Cruse speed I'm deathly afraid when ever I try to dock, it always looks like I'm going to crash into what ever planet I'm trying to dock with.
But as for dying...I didn't die very much in the SP, it was Quintain who did the most of that.
Life: No one gets out alive.

Thats odd. I never lost quintane in single player. He complained about a buckling hull a lot but he never actually died.
I managed to die once on my first time through. I got vaporised on the Tekagi mission. The second time I went through I lost all my equipment including one wing, all my guns and all my lanuchers. I took ages to finish it with one level 6 gun... I think that was the only time I died in single player unmodded.
In modded in rebalance I died when theres a crusier blocking the jumpgate (I'm being deliberatly vague here). I got massacred by it and yet managed to through the fleet battle shortly after with barely a scratch...

I had a few deaths. Mostly because I was stupid and didn't trade at all early on. When I did I didn't do alot reconassiance or planning. I exercised very poor tactical and strategic decisions! Not to mention number 3 was unforigivable.
1. First time I played I came back from a 'Story mission' and was headed back to pittsburgh. My StarFlier had seen better days and I tried to pirate a Deep Space Engineering Transport. The entire system turned hostile and I tried to dock when I realized I couldn't and was blown away. (So that's why you pirate at the middile of trade lanes ...)
2. Tekagi's Arch. I died there once when I got too close to my own Torp. (This is Freelancer 1-1 I'm engaging myself ... Area Clear)
3. I did something really stupid. Like loading up a Freighter with Engine Components and trying to sell them at Mactan Base. (It was early in the morining and I didn't consider the rep. I fought my way all the way there and figured I'd make enough money to buy shield bats. I ended up fighting everybody and if that wasn't bad enough the Junkers showed up and wanted my cargo ... I told the Junkers to shove it and they obliged by giving me a good shove in the form of weapons fire. OUCH!
4. Last death ... On multiplayer. It was lagging really bad and was my first game I took a StarFlier against some Xenos ... I killed one Xeno ... I couldn't hardly hit them they called in two batches of reinforcements and wasted me. I hate the Xenos now almost as much as I hate the bounty hunters.
Bounty Hunters, Kill them All and let the Junkers sort them out!

I've done the SP missions a few times now and I've decided on a solution that works for me; it's based on the umbrella paradox where if you go out of your way to take an umbrella when you leave the house, it won't rain at all, but if you don't take one it's almost guaranteed to rain. Murphy's law I suppose.
Therefore, the solution to dying in Freelancer: save often. The more you save, the less likely you are to die. Sounds stupid but it seems to work for me
