3D glasses have cons and pros. They are the only way I've seen a real 3D effect on a 2D monitor.
There are things you can tweak to make the experience a good one. First - do not use them with a flatscreen. Since you basicly render two different pictures for each eye, you need a high screenrefresh, prefferable at 120 HZ or higher.
This would translate to a percieved refresh at 60 HZ, and create a fairly stable image. The next think to tweak is how much you split the left and right image appart. The more you do it, the more you are likely to be confused by it, but the greater the effect is.
The total plus-side to these kinds of googles is, that they workwith most 3D games. The DirectX interface has built in support for this kind of technologies, and the effect is made there and in the driver.
Unfortunally the 2D elements get confused at times. Some games handle this fine, and other give errors.
I've tested the advetize glasses with a lot of games, and they work pretty well with for instance Mafia and GTA: Vice CIty. Freelancer also works great, but unfortunally the 2D HUG elements are a bit garbled. Though I use short-cuts anyway.
All in all...
Pro:
The effect has to be seen to be believed, and is very awesome.
Con:
Like most electronics, the glasses are a tiny tad flimsy, but not to bad
I can not play long stretches with the glasses
Some games can not handle the 2D elements with the 3D interface
Are they worth a 100 buck? That really depends on the amount of money you have...
The glasses for sure make your neerd friends impressed, but your wife might consider this money thrown out the window, even while she is also a little impressed that 3D is really possible in color! (wihtout those horrible red/blue glasses)
Expect a longer review shortly...
