The Arch mission with the Blood Dragons

Torpedoes.

Missles.

Hit and Run with Tantos.

Waiting back and picking them off.

Getting up in their face and taking them on.

Even hiding like a wimp under the actual arch so I can just see the shield generators but avoid being blasted by the battleship.

I can not seem to beat this mission. The Blood Dragons get "picked apart". No one helps me take out the shield generators. No one engages the battleship. I even tried "cleaning" the enemy fighters out and ended up getting killed.

What am I doing wrong?

I could never do it ... until I went back to an old save and starting hunting Outcasts for their guns. Outcast ships have powerful and LONG RANGE guns. Once I had my ship armed with them and got back to the arch mission, I was amazed at how easy it seemed. With the longer range guns, I was able to slip through the passage in the base and blast the shield batteries without even once getting hit by the battleship. Before I could never get more than 2 or 3 shield generators before the battleship blew me to bits.

Make sure your ship is properly armed before trying the arch. Then come up through the birth passage (or whatever it is) and blast the shields from the safe side of the battleship. When the guns on the arch start knocking down your shields, zip back into the opening and let them recover. Then pop out and blast away at the shields again.

Take out the battleship, just fly in behind it and blast it. Also you could scan to see what type of weapons they use against you and get the most effective shields to counter their weapons.

Or you could do a search for "perfoption.ini" and change your difficulty setting to 0. Kind of takes the fun out of it though.

Puke Barwalker, are you sure it was the guns that made the mission seem easier? My guess is that you improved your skills and that this was the deciding factor.

Getting decent guns at this point in the campaign is not straightforward but one easy way is using the class 5 particle guns of the Outcasts. They are better than much of the class 6 stuff that is easily available, and you can get them earlier.

In the Spoiler Forum there are several threads devoted to this mission, look for titles like "Tekagi's Arch" (in various spellings :O) ).

OK, I'm there too, and I've tried it once and wasn't running into any trouble (But I reset cos someone else got the kill on the Kusari Battleship) I'm flying a Dragon, with 2x Scramblers, 2x Sunfurys, 2x Tantos, 50x Starkillers.
Arm your Starkiller permanantly, so that it fires with your main cannons (I didn't do this, I just held my finger down on "Fire Torp". As you fly past the Battleship at about 1000m slow down to 80 and fire at it, torps will start lanching. Strafe in large swings. As you complete the first run lock onto the first shield generator, and fire torps. Fly back to the battle ships, launch more. with a little luck you should now have killed it. If not, go for next generator, take out with toprs (Or wound) and guns, and fly back to the Battleship and finish off. Then pick off the last two generators. Another way to help kill the battleship is drop Tadpoles as you fly past.
Remember that what ever you're locked onto, that's what the mines and Torps home in after.
That should enable you to do it. Then just turn off the Starkiller, and blow away the Dragon fighters and the odd gun boat.

Ok .. based on the information given, I will adjust my tactics.

I have come to the conclusion that I must destroy the shield generators on my own.

I also believe I will have to take out the battleship.

And I now know that I can hide in the "hole" under the arch to recover shields.

So, I will attempt to torp the shield generators from "max torp range".

I will let you know. Thanks for the help.

I thought that part was easy. I just sat infront of the gen and shot it. I ignored anyone shooting at me and just bats and bots when nessacairy.

Some evasive maneuvers like s-turns, figure eights, pivot-turns, and sliding turns should do the trick very well. Also, going after anything BUT the shield generators is a waste of time, and could get you killed. Just improve you piloting ability.

Maybe so. But the Outcast guns had a range of 700 m. The ones I was using before were only 600 m. I figured that extra 100 m. gave me a bit more cover from the battleship. I've come to like the longer range guns -- hit the bad guys before they get in range of you!

haha ... the mission was very easy when I changed my tactics.

I decided to attack the Shield Generators right away. When needing to recharge shields, I dove into the "pit with lightning" on the Arch planet.

In order to facilitate a good torp run on each shield generator, I had to line up and move in close.

turns out, I only used 3 torps before I realized I could gun them to death using the same strategy as the torps.

beat the mission, easy. Did not kill the battleship (I was a wimp).

Found out who Nomads were

Got the tome, killed lots of Rheinland Cruisers.

Life is good!
