Points of View and a couple of questions

To all Freelancers,
First off, I'm most impressed with the game, the sp missions and whole feel of the game takes some beating, although now I've finished the story missions, done some trading, mining, banditry, got to level 38, got the Sabre, and now the game is losing some of its appeal. True, I still have to get the level 10 weaps and visit all the systems, but the game could really do with another set of storyline missions to look forward to.

Thanks goes out to those who posted the excellent map of the whole galaxy and the list of wrecks.

What I want to know now is:
1. Can I play from scratch without having to go through the main story missions but without connecting to a server (sad to say, my pc just isn't up to it)?
2. The mods that are posted on the site, can they be used if I don't MP
3. Are there any mods that do give missions other than the standard available in bars and on job boards.

Any help or advice will stand in good stead, if I ever get onto a server (I'll refrain from frying your shields)

1. I know there is a mod wich cancels the storyline, I'm not sure wich one it is though. Check the download section of this (3,000,000 hits, Whoohoo!) site.
2. Most of them. Check the mods discription to find out, they usualy give that kind of info.
3. Not that I know off.

My advice: Have fun, and kill all the Red Hessians you run into

Well, I'd be cool like hell if someone made a mod for more random missions. I know it's possible

I believe you can start a MP server on your own PC and limit the number of players allowed to join to one (ie you) there's no storyline to play but you start off from scratch at Manhatten with your dinky starflier.

There are mods around which offer different missions, although so far these seem to be fairly limited in their variety. I know that the rebalance mod gives "destroy battleship" missions on high levels on rare occassions (rebalance mod is HARD, prepare to spend a long time trying to get thru any of the storyline if you try it). But most mods play around with gameplay, systems and ships.

Recusant,
Do you know how to start a MP like that, or can you point me in the right direction?

Also, how do I get promoted from being a recruit on Lancer

I'm afraid I've never been particularly bothered by the storyline. I think (I stress I don't know this ofr sure) that you can set up a server using flserver.exe and then go to multiplayer from the FL main menu. But even then I'm unsure. I tried it with my PC but its notoriously difficult with anything remotely like a network or the internet.

As for ranks at this site, the more posts you make the closer you get to being promoted. However, it doesn't count for much and nobody likes a spammer, so I would just continue to post in moderation. Here's a list of the number of posts required to reach each rank. Heh, someday you might become a big ole' Commander like me!!
5 Recruit
5-25 2nd Lieutenant
25-50 1st Lieutenant
50-80 Flight Lieutenant
80-115 Captain
115-160 Flight Captain
160-225 Lt. Commander
225-300 Commander
300-400 Flight Commander
400-500 Sqdr. Commander
500-650 Major
650-800 Lt. Colonel
800-900 Colonel
900-1400 Commodore
1400-2500 Port Commodore
2500-4000 Rear Admiral
4000-6000 Vice Admiral
6000- Fleet Admiral

Anyone here on TLR made it to Fleet Admiral yet?

Wizard, Electric Brain and Tachyon (all moderators now) made it to Fleet Admiral, then a lot of the messages got archived and most of the vets got bumped all the way back down to recruit!
Their rank didn't get them moderator status, so don't use that as an excuse to spam!

To all who helped out on this one, a big thanks. I didn't want to start modding the game as I thought it may compromise the feel of Freelancer, so after scanning the forums, found out how to create an a/c ID (I'm on windows ME at home) thanks to Admiral Stinger and the 1.1 patch. Unfortunately, even with this and running flserver, my server name does not appear on the list of LAN servers, so I tried out the mod for no story and the mod manager and success opens her doors to me - only trouble is I'm now spending more time looking at all the mods than playing the game. Oh well the price of freedom - thanks again guys.
