Mining

Sorry guys, this has probably been covered before, but couldn't see anything relating to it in previous posts. How do you go about mining, do you have to buy a special mining tool or do you just blow the rocks etc to bits and mine the rubble. Or is there more to it cos i couldn't get it to work or find anything about it in the manual.

It's just that i was trying to mine for Silver in liberty last night and kept getting battered by Xenos hordes. When i moved out of their zone got attacked by Bounty Hunters who also dislike me :-<

Cheers dudes

Mining isn't very hard (though it is also not very profitable). First, you've got to find a suitible location. The best way to do this is to look on your map. Once you've arrived at that location, you put your ships engines to neutral, and stand still. If you're in a good location, you should see little rocks flying around. Shoot those and they will break. In most cases they will break and leave nothing, but sometimes they drop items such as scrap metal, water, diamonds, etc (depending on where it is that you're mining). And that's it. Kepp breaking rocks and picking up the cargo 'til your cargo hold is full, and then go off to sell the material. Like I said, this isn't exactly the most profitable means of gaining money, but it is an option.

I got a freighter just for the heck of it ... and filled up the cargo hold just sitting there and blasting small rocks, bits of space debris and hunks of ice they flew by. Doesn't make much money, but it's good gunnery practice. (Haven't tried it on diamonds yet.)

**minor spoilor** If you want to mine for Diamonds, go to omega-11. You'll need a ship with heavy armor, though; the radiation there is very high.

If you want to mine Artifacts, go to

---SPOILARZ!!1!one!---

Omicron Gamma, there's really small spots in the northern cloud where you can mine Artifacts. You can also mine Alien Organisms in Omicron Theta.

Also, when you visit a system, go to the map and click on the 'Minable Zones' icon at the top of the map. This will highlight the areas that you can exrtact minerals from.
