Doesn't explain why they keep liking me, or why they have a faction. If they are Xenophobic, why do they team up? On the other hand, it does explain why they keep losing batles...

They seem to be so desperate that they try to be friendly with Freelancers that slughter 40+ or so of them.
That happened to me, they're friendly with me...

And then some plaer comes up to me and says, "Hey, you want to join the Xenos?"
