Rest of universe?

Okay, I'm hooked on the game. It's ELITE brought forward into the 21st century! But there is so much of space that doesn't show up on the maps. How do I find those other planetary systems? Do I need to go hunting for jump holes? I went sailing off exploring in the New Berlin system, and all that happened was that my ship icon turn red and got stuck in the corner. I must be doing something wrong ... what? :-(

You can't get to other systems that way. Jump holes or jump gates are the only way.

Thanks. I sort of figured that. But my ship seemed to be travelling, just not getting anywhere. I thought maybe I'd fall off of the end of the world or something at least.

Of course, this does make one wonder how the early exporers found their way around the system. They didn't have jump gates or maybe even jump holes.

The Jump HOLES are naturally occuring phenomena that seem to be unique to the Sirius Sector. The GATES were built after and no one is really certain how they work. <begin eerie space music> The company that makes them (Deep Space Engineering ?) are very secretive about their little white boxes that control the gates. Maybe it is adapted Nomad/Dom Kahvash technology ? Maybe the people in the top levels of DSE are Nomad sympathizers ? Thats the Secret you know. The Lane Hackers know the Secret thats why they attack the lanes and all because they KNOW ! <end eerie space music> Or I could be a loon who has spent wwwaaaayyyy too much time in the Kepler system listening to Xeno radio chatter.

I figured jump gates were just Jump Holes with a door...

And i'm guessing that because the systems are so far away from each other it would take years to travel from 1 system to another (Whcih is why they had to be frozen to get from sol to sirius).

DSE probably took scans of a jump hole and recreate them with JUmp Gates that can be locked.

y helo thar

heres the thing, the first explorers used jumpholes!, if you look there is a legal way to get to a system, and an illegal way,in the border worlds, most of the time the illegal way is faster, and in the central worlds like newyork areas, the best way to go is legal, im willing to bet that the jumpgates are simply big trade lanes, dident you notice the massive build up of energy coming from them, its to slingshot you!

uhh i believe all this takes place in the 32nd century (somewhere around there).. im sure by then humans have the capabilities of creating intergalactic jump gates, but you'd think that well over 1000 years from now we would be MUCH more advanced

ex:
-warp speed (seen in star trek)
-ships that dont look like big, ugly floating bricks with huge guns attached to them.
-the abilities to land on planets without having to use a docking bay
-technology to prevent pollution and industrial-pollutant planets (leeds)

need i say more?

You'd think they also might have designed some clothing that doesn't look so much like 19th military uniforms (with a bit of a gay touch) ...
