Has anyone used a Spaceball?

I was wondering if anyone has used or tried to use an HP Spaceball with Freelancer or any other games? Is there a way to set it up so you would fly with the Spaceball and aim with the mouse?

Does anyone even know what I'm talking about?

It's a high end 3D controller I use with the CAD work I do. It sits on the left side of the keyboard and the normal mouse is on the right.

I use a spaceball at work too. I am not sure if that would be the best thing to use unless you could program the buttons on the spaceball so you wouldn't have to do much on the key board, otherwise you would have to have an extra hand.

Our's is not the reason why...
Our's is but to do and die.

Good God the cheapest on I found was $400 I think I'll stick with the mouse and keyboard for now. Looks interesting though.

Yeah, Spaceballs was a great movie... Mel Brooks sure can make you... HEEEEY...! Wait a minute... *looks around* *realises that these are the wrong balls* Ooops... My mistake... Please, excuse me while I go find some cheaper balls to play with...

Careful what you wish... You might just get it.

if you get it working, let us know...

Yea I was planning on remapping the keyboard to the buttons on the Spaceball. I was just wondering if anyone else has tried or done this (why re-invent the wheel?) but, with it being such a high end and specialized item I really wasn't planning on anyone doing this previously.
