End of my Rope

I just maxed out on levels. I've been flying a Titan for about 8 hours now. I reached level 38 and can go no higher (not that levels matter after the SP missions are over). So I decided to become a cargo pilot. I buy a Humpback in Rheinland, max her out with a variety of turrets and seek out to make my fortuned. Well, I'm already worth 3 mil, but I figure anything will beat the monotony of flying ship kill, base kill, and bounty hunter missions. Besides, the only jobs that pay anything are against the Bounty Hunters in Omicron Gamma. There might have been better jobs flying for the Outcasts in Omicron Alpha or Beta, but I wasn't friendly enough with them to check it out. I made nice with every faction except for the Mollys, Lane Hackers, Rouges, Golden Chysanthimums, Unioners, Junkers, the aforementioned Outcast, Bundusch, and the Blood Dragons. Every one else is neutral of friendly (this really helps traveling the space lines in a Humpack when you're used to packing the punch of a Titan).

I was really dissaopointed in the trade routes that were open to me. With all the bases I've discovered, I figured I should find a few that were short and profitable. With a cargo space of 270, I wouldn't settle for anything that would not profit me at least 300k. Anything that fit the monetary criteria was too long in distance and time to run to keep my interest.

I guess what I'm asking for here is some help. Is there anything that is short and sweet or do I have to visit every stinking base in the game to get the buy/sell list in my neural net to find the best cargo run? Running around in a Humpack is very tedious, you wouldn't believe how many bases the computer AI could not dock me at. The ship was to immobile to maneuver itself properly to dock in tight quarters.

I'm open to all suggestions.

Huh?

Here are some simple answers...buy a fighter and go exploring....

or try out MP and you can go all the way up to lvl 99, even though I don't think anyone has made it that high yet (someone let me know if I'm wrong)

or try out some of the mods that people have made up, they'll add different ship and different systems as well as changing some of the other game characteristics.

I was trying to dock with some pirate/asteroid base and that stupid Humpback just kept circling and circling and couldn't dock. Finally someone demands my cargo and I refuse and they open fire and destroy me while the stupid Humpback is still trying to circle and dock. I reloaded and manually flew right up to the docking doors and then hit the dock button, it finally docked with no problem.

Now that I got off my chest.... have you found where the Nomads patrol and got some of their weapons? Don't attempt without a lv10 fighter. Then go to a Xeno base and crush them. You'll only have 1-2 factions hostile to you after you kill several waves of them. I even blasted two of their turrets off their base.Something to do after SP is done.

As above posts, check out mods or other posts suggesting challenges for the lvl 38 pilot.

In answer to your question about trade runs, check out Freelancer commodities on the downloads page - it list thousands of trade routes.

You'll never have any fun trading tho

I've done nothing but fly combat missions. It's time for a change.

Thanks for the tips.

hmmm.... something i find reasonable enjoying for a while is trying to fly as close to the sun as possible without dying. :-) After a while, you discover certain tricks, to the sport. Anways... also, why dont you log on to multiplayer, and duel someone, or participate in a freelancer tournament

If you want to stick with your single player game, yet you don't want to spend the time visiting each space port in order to find out what they buy and sell, then I suggest you head for the Spoilers Forum. You'll find a few databases that tell you about the shortest and most profitable trade runs.

Personally, I found the game was greatly extended by doing the research on my own. It might seem tedious, but it was fun to discover things on my own instead of just read it off a list. I was contributing my own findings to the list rather than taking what was given.

Aside from that, your other options are to join a multiplayer server, grab a mod, or both.

Yeah, I saw the spoilers on the commodities list, but I have thus far avoided using them. The games nowhere near hard enough to need it, but it can get boring enough to require a quick peek once in a while.

Huh?

The absolute most fun thing to do is work your way back down through the ship classes after the end of SP. Trust me on this one, you'll never get bored once you're back in the Liberty ships flying around the Omicrons.

Reaper: $200,000,000.
Rockets: $100,000
The look on that pilot's face when you launch a full pod of screamers up his tailpipe: priceless

A few suggestions to continue the freelancing experience

1. Play through the game again to lvl 38 using only light fighters (not that hard)
2. Play through using only freighters (a little harder through the missions)
3. Play through using Starflier/Defender/Patriot (whichever you choose)
4. Play through as a pirate without using jump gates or trade lanes (holes only, missions excluded)
5. Play multiplayer
6. Mod your game to add new components (I created a light fighter and freighter to equal the Titan, and changed the net worth requirements so to get level 38 you need $100 million - I've only got to level 21 so far after 56 hours play time)
7. Gosub 1 (until Doom 3 comes out)

I recommend having a go at modding. Once you have found where to download Bini It's really straightforward and you can rebalance the game however you would have liked it to be, then play it again. Better than waiting for an expansion.

Circ...you must have been paying attention to all of my posts you nailed all of the ones I have been preaching since the first post of "too easy not enough to do" came out.

I agree I have flown the freighter, and the LF, I haven't tried the Liberty LF all the way thru but that could be fun. I actually at one point had every single faction on Neutral terms Albiet some just barely. I ran around and tried to find all the jump holes, wrecks, and hidden things I could. I had flow almost every ship you could buy in the game.

Unfortunately my Hard Drive died and took all my stuff away so rather than get hacked off about it, I started over and then Modded my game with the FL rebalance mod. Now that I have Modded my game I find it harder and more challenging than before, the rebalance mod is great as you can set it for easier or harder challenges 1-3.

More risk = more challenges = more fun and more rewards $.

Just some thoughts from the edge of space!

Sorry - no plagiarism intended !

I haven't finished all of these yet either. Although it will only take a few more weeks, and then .... dunno. Maybe try another game, but that's what they are for - enjoy for a while and move on to the next.
