You call that an update???

Post Fri Jun 06, 2003 3:53 pm

Microsoft calls it an update
Im just letting you know about it
Its what everyone has been waiting on and whining about
Take what you can get

Post Fri Jun 06, 2003 3:53 pm

It's a server patch guys. It was never meant to be anything else.

to quote Microsoft...:

"There is really no need to install the update unless you are running a server or are unable to play multiplayer because you can't get an ID."

...The Freelancer Update v1.1 is primarily a server update addressing server stability and cheating. There are some client side fixes, the most important being a multiplayer ID generation issue.

Not exactly anything to get excited about?

Post Fri Jun 06, 2003 4:15 pm

Excited by it, no but if it helps weed out the cheats then go get it if your a server admin

Post Fri Jun 06, 2003 4:58 pm

HAHAHAHA! may not be exciting for you regular players, but it's really exciting for us server admins!

Actally some regular players such as myself have been waiting awhile for this.
As repetitive as freelancer is, the only reason the game was any fun at all at the beginning was playing online - competitively and cooperatively. Soon most servers were flooded with cheats and hacks - causing servers to crash and simply ruining the fun for me to keep playing. I mean to say...what was the point?
Its was the same for the last microsoft title I had bought, "Dungeon Seige" except they never patched that game.
So needless to say - this doesn't add more ships, systems or any other gameplay extras. It's meant to fix (hopefully) what should have never been an issue in the 1st place....which is what a patch should do....fix things.

just so you know, there is a 25mb patch for dungeon siege, but it may not address whatever issues you had with the game.

Post Fri Jun 06, 2003 7:34 pm

It must have been released well after I got fed up with the game.
Both microsoft titles are visually stunning - easy to play, etc. etc. - I do give them due props for those features.
My issues with both titles is they were extremely easy to hack/cheat.
What is the point of the game?
The point of the game is to explore, gain lvls, and find good stuff.
This all = fun.
When everyone and their brother already starts with the top lvl - all the good stuff, there is no point anymore.
No point = no fun.
This is simply my opinion and in no way reflects the opinions of hackers/cheaters and those who would ruin the game for myself and others.

hmmm... i'm really looking forward to the elemental mod for dungeon seige. It has the securechar mod, which stores all the characters on a central server instead of your computer. That way, you cant modify your character without doing some very extensive hacking.

Dont know how long itl'll take though...

Unfortunetaly the speed and weapon hacks have not been fixed but that is being worked on and will be included in the next patch.

From another thread. This means more patches

Post Sat Jun 07, 2003 4:47 pm

The Elemental mod has been in production since the release of the game. I would think that they'd be close to finishing. Many of the other larger mods for DS are starting to come out now.

I was hoping that the speed/ wepaon cheats had been addressed with this patch.
But as long as they continue to support the product and acknowledge the issues then I will remain hopefull.

as for the freelancer patch suggestion on the neo forums, the moderators over there are acting like a bunch of douche bags whenever a newbie submits a suggestion they end up gettin flamed just because they didn't know it was a rebalance patch.

"No player jobs for NPCs. STOP ADDING STUPID ****."

"*None* of the Four Houses should have VHF's available to buy. The four governments in Sirius are called Houses because they are domesticated and thus do not have a need for such firepower. Bounty Hunters and criminals are the only people who need VHF's, so please no more ****ing "omg new shipz plz."

why don't the staffs here at lancersreactor do the job for this??
