Wow, there''s some surprises in FL Rebalance 1.4b!

I found the Vindicator from Wing Commander IV! The front page says it's at Planet Houston and Holman Outpost, but I found it on Planet Harris.

The sad thing is, it looks like it was just imported directly from WCIV... There's no specular lighting on it, textures are blurry...

Still, I bought it as soon as I found it. Brings back some memories...

Now I gotta find the other 3! (Hornet, Hellcat, Thunderbolt.)

Get the Babylon 5 mod, it comes with all the ships you just mentioned plus the Angel and a couple more, it also makes like 10 new systems and 6 new factions, it adds four new phaser guns, though I don't especially like the effects on the phasers

The update list also said that Wing Commander's Hornet LF was now the new starter ship. It ain't. And when I tried to buy it, the game crashed.

I'm using 1.4 now and have had a few problems. Some of the phantom guns, don't try to uninstall them and you can't sell them. I also had it drop to desktop when I tried to go to Omicron Beta jump hole in Sigma 19. Just before I got to it, I could have sworn I saw another OB jh?? I also didn't notice right off that the nomad guns now suck the energy big time. And one more thing, if I buy the engine upgrade, say the MIII and then buy the MIV later, it won't let me sell the engine upgrade or the regular engines. If anyone knows how to fix, let me know.

The hornet is a starter ship not a starting ship. This means you can basically go right out and purchase it from the start. In order to buy it without crashing you need to either add the engine it uses, ge_li_engine_01 to engine_equip.ini or edit the ship package to another engine.

The OB jumphole in S-19 doesn't go to OB. If you click on it and go to the system it leads to you'll notice it says nav-map not avalible so it's probably one of the SP systems without an official designation.

To get past the "phantom guns" issue, don't try dismounting them. When you are buying a ship with phantom guns simply click on the slot and transfer it back to the dealer. You won't get any money for them but at least you'll have those mounts back.

I have just bought the game, and have just started playing. WOuld u say I should install this mod?

I mean does it make the game much more enjoyable overall? I am getting a bit bored of the 'go here, blow up the ships and come back missions'

Surely they could have made some the missions from the bars u do more interesting? I mean like some escort missions, escorting big freighters, or other more imaginitive things?

I know the campaign takes u away from these missions a bit, but I still think this could have been a fantastic game with just a bit more variety in the bar missions.

But, back to my main question, should I install this mod right away, or should I just play thru the original game?

Play through the original game first. Here are my reasons.

The Freelancer Balance Mod actually makes the game harder which is cool and it has a ton more ships. But the NPC's also fly in different sectors where they don't in the original game so if you are hostile to some they may be where you don't expect them to be and you will get whacked in a lesser ship.

By playing the original version you will get a good feel for game play and controls of your ship then when you do mod your game you will be prepared to take advantage of whatever ship you choose to fly.

Also the Rebalance mod has some bug issues which they are fixing so perhaps by the time you finish with your original game play a newer version will be out as we are on 1.4b.

just some thoughts from the edge of space!

I agree with Pressgod. The original version is a good introduction to this section of space and all that is in it. Once you have a little familiarity with the way things work you will enjoy FLRebalance much more.

In regards to the "Can't Sell My Engine" problem : they are hard coded into the ship models, selling them would be like selling a wing or the cockpit. If you want to upgrade your engines you have 2 choices,
1) buy and mount the upgrade then dump the original in space somewhere or
2) MOD the ship file directly to have the engine you want.
At this time there is no know way to make the engines saleable.

p.s. I have NO first hand modding or programming knowledge. The above information is gleaned from reading previous post by modders/programmers and personal experience.

Has anybody had cargo issues?

Specifically; I bought the new freighter availalbe at Baltimore and 400 of my 500 cargo spaces are full, even thought the ship is empty

It's usually the engine and other large components taking up that space.

It seems to be a bug.

You can buy an upgraded engine along with alternatives for whatever else is taking up critical space, and then just jettison what you can't sell back.
