Jump Gates and Trade Lanes

OK, we all know that Ageira and DSE make the Lanes and Gates. They are both Liberty companies. So what did Kusari, Bretonia and Rheinland do about their space travel problems during the period where no house knew of the others' existance? Did they just cruise everywhere taking a few hours? Use (sometimes) unstable jump holes? If they used those jump holes, then wouldn't they rather have Trade Lanes built to the holes by Ageira, rather than the expensive Gates?

What do you think?

Maybe the Houses expanded their "empire", using the discovered jumpholes, untill they came in contact with the other Houses. After all they knew that they had to be out there somewhere.
Next they probably deceided to use the Liberty tradelane and jumpgate tech to ensure a save way of traveling.

Well, like you said: the jumpholes are sometimes unstable and might not always work.. so why build a tradelane to them if you can build jumpgates that always work? Also: many jumpholes are in hostile (criminal) areas so using them is taking a big risk for some. Better to build a jumpgate in your own backyard..

I don't know.. I guess I just like doin it Sabre-style.

But if they were regularly using a jump hole to get between their systems, then that jump hole would probably be stable for regular use, otherwise they wouldn't use it...

But then if they did use jump holes, then why are house authorities so clueless about criminal base locations and common attack paths using jump holes? Surely they would have used these jump holes themselves early on to travel between their own systems?

Maybe the areas with the jumpholes in them were mostly in control by "the good guys" but the "bad guys" slowly took them over and the good guys were forced to build their own jumpgates.
Or maybe in the beginning their were no "good" or "bad guys" and everyone was living together in a happy and peacefull Sirius.
Sounds kinda boring tough....

Well, I think the authoraties know the lokations of some of the jumpholes, but not all. Maybe some were discovered later by the criminals, after the tradelanes and jumpholes were built. Some of them are very remote. I mean, no LPI would gladly go out into the Badlands just to check out if there is anything out there.

Maybe there was somekind of mayor networkoverload at some point, so all the data on the jumpholes were lost.

I guess the storyline doesn't go deep enough to shed light on these matters..

most jump holes seem to be in part of space with junk to crash into i.e. astorids, ice , rocks etc. or they are in huge gas clouds that you can hardly see in. maybe they used the jump gates for safety and to located you in clearer space.

or perhaps some of the jumpholes faded out and dissapeared, because they became "unaligned." And new jumpholes formed in different locations. Thus, the police dont know about the new ones.
