So very dissapointed

What a waste!
So much oppertunity, and then they give us the exact same missions over and over again! I'm not talking about the story, those i like, but the basic missions: kill somebody, kill some more, kill somebody and tractor something in, kill somebody tractor something in and fly back, kill sombody and destroy something he drops or kill somebody and a base. As you can see, it all pretty much the same thing. What I wouldn't give for some escort missions... My formation manoeuver is completely wasted...
What a pitty...

I know what you mean. I'm also getting tired of having the same missions over and over.

I keep on trying to find a smuggling job, because you know that it says all that stuff on the box that you can be whatever you want. Is that true?

Nah, you can smuggle on your own, but you can smuggle for someone else. i sure as hell hope they make an expasion set with some added missioncapibilities (and perhaps a jumphole to earth...)

So, its not Ronseal woodstain - it doesnt do exactly what it says on the tin, but what the hell its still pretty sweet

You dont get a job as a smuggler as such, you just buy your illegal goods - i.e. alien artifacts or cardamine and then ship them to a legit system and sell for a wad load of cash.

I agree with regard to the wasted opportunity ... Just think back to the variety of missions in the Privateer and Wing Commander series.

And let's not forget mission objectives. In Privateer and Wing Commander, if you were told to protect a ship and you let yourself get lured away by a bogie by staying on his six then the other baddies would shred the freighter in the meantime and you failed the mission.

In Freelancer, if you get told to take out some gunboats you may actually do it because the loot tends to be good (i.e., you'd have done it anyway) but if you get told to take out some heavy bombers you target the nearest enemy fighter instead regardless of its type, because it doesn't make any difference.

In fact, you can solve many story missions just by being there and not dying; there are pretty few missions where you actually have to take out something. Of course, waiting for Juni to dispatch a wing of Rhinelanders could take a couple of hours and so even the most patient types would probably engage the enemy eventually out of sheer boredom.

I have read several people are working on more missions, but have seen no specifics.

1)The Only thing I'm dissapointed about in this game are the missions after the SP campaign. They are ok as basic missions but are far from interactive. The News and talking to NPC's is sorta dull

If someone is working on missions here are a few ideas.
1)Longer missions: John Dillenger was last spotted on the planet Crete.
You get there and then get a position on him or see his ship using a hypergate out. (The point is to track him through more than one system.)

2)Wanted Posters in the NEWS: bounty & Faction rewards for bringing them in.

3)Random Escapes for previously captured villians, and revenge parties sprung after you visit a base within their territory afterwards.

4)Helping a faction gain ground (take over an enemy base) or stop their expansion plans cold (gaining a bounty on your head)

Lastly I enjoy finding some of the class 10 guns etc.. on wrecks but would much prefer to earn them. (taking them off some Top Guns dead body)

SO I guess what I'm asking for is some NPC Top Gun type pilots and ships for the factions, and the Missions to use them.
It's fun to fly Boba Fetts ship, would be more fun to have him come after you for driving the knock-off or calling him BOBO lol

Nah...when it tells you to take out those bombers in mission 3, it MEANS the bombers. They're even labeled so you can pick them out, and if you ignore them, they do kill the cruisers(all but walker, who is typically invinceable)

If you want an escort mission really bad, you can always link up with one of the dozens of AI convoys. You aren't guaranteed a fight, but the opportunity is there.

Reaper: $200,000,000.
Rockets: $100,000
The look on that pilot's face when you launch a full pod of screamers up his tailpipe: priceless

Hey, I know that they mean the bombers when they say take out the bombers (i.e., the three Valkyries that are labelled 'Bomber' in the scanner list instead of 'Valkyrie'). What I meant was just that it doesn't matter whether you take them out or not, you win the mission by simply being there when it ends.

Some of the late missions in the campaign are markedly different, though. My favourite is Tekagi's Arch. It is a cakewalk if you concentrate on the objective, and you fail if you don't. Mission 13 is nice as well. M10 and M12 are too easy and M11 is of the 'been there' type.

If you escort a trade convoy, you're pretty stupid, who would want to protect something, while gaining absolutley nothing (and don't give me the good samarithan crap, you are a freelancer).
and, god, i just redid the race mission, god damn, not nice, but hey, now i'm overcomplaining

That's what I'd like to see as well : That you can try and track down dudes on your own (who have a bounty on their head). Perhapse have their latest known location shown in the news, and when you get there that you can figure things on your own... by talking to people etc... So you can clear your rep with a faction back up without having to do missions which they don't give you (cus you have a bad rep)

Indeed. So many mission opportunities lost.
Just look at privateer 2.
combat, clearing trade lanes, destroying outposts, escort, rescue, random SOS encounters... some real, others traps.
And capital ships to kill, some extreemly hard.
*sighs*

A little 'thank-you' now and then when you help out some police or company that is getting battered by some criminals would be nice...........

I'm not trying to be a Professional Microsoft AssKisser, but the release of the game was somewhat RUSHED*, you can see just how rushed if you go to Omicron ____ [maybe gamma if you look on your NavMap you wont see any jump hole that leads to Omicron Alpha but when you zoom your Nav in over a planet you will see that there is a jump hole there and its even labeled nicely for you, just a glitch in the game how its not on the NavMap until you zoom in. I too would have liked to see some more complex and diverse SP missions [non story-line and I'm sure MS would have put some more work into the missions if they didn't rush it so much, also look at the economy, it never changes, I expect much more from MS and I don't expect them to release an expansion but I sure hope they do and IF they do I know it will be nothing but fun...

*- the phrase "somewhat RUSHED" actually means "released without thinking"
