homeworld2 vs freelancer

which one looks better?

Post Tue May 20, 2003 3:23 pm

i feel that the ships in the homeworld 2 are much beautiful than those in freelancer.

Nonsense ! Wing Commander Prophecy has greater ships.

I prefer nothing else but a Vampire.

It's not really the same type of game: Homeworld 2 is more a strategyc game; so it's not really easy to compare these 2 games... But FL has my preference...

I think that I like Homeworld2 better than FL. I played the first Homeworld and I loved it. Plus it would be alot easier to fight off a fleet of Nomads with a bunch of ships than just controlling one. And the ships are allot more detailed.

Homeworld capships definately look better than those in FL. When it comes to fighters i'm a bit more uncertain, FL have some really sweet designs.

It's all subjective of course and everyone has their own view..

For me, I like the Privateer 1 ships because they are functional yet very aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Privateer 1 ships like the Centurion occupy the middle ground between the rough-looking toylike WC1 and WC2 ships and the overstylized WC3/4/Prophecy ships which many other games also tend to do, including StarLancer. Freelancer takes overstylization almost to the point of absurdity with the batwings on the Kusari ships and yo-yos on the Rheinland ships.

That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. I ain't going to try to change anybody else's mind so don't try to change mine.

but atleast they kept it consictant, wich you can not say from most othter games. They have a fleet of practical looking good ships and then one or two oddballs in it wich happen to be the best ships aswell.

Being a big fan of both HW and FL, I'm torn. But if I had to choose, I'd say...

Different genres. I like 'em both.

Reaper: $200,000,000.
Rockets: $100,000
The look on that pilot's face when you launch a full pod of screamers up his tailpipe: priceless

Gameplayers know little about freelancer but know much about homeworld in China.

What can I say, Freelancer will better if they did not remove
the originality concept and resume previous privateer I/II.

like: Trent taunting/feedback voices, Radar Scanner
(The base explosion is weird and fast, no more white flashes)
(The interactive should be CGI, like Starlancer)
Other addon: ForceFeedback Mouse, Editor...etc

I've wonder if the DA studio is not well funded or probably the time
constraint especially there a lot of new emerging graphics cards.

All the program need to be tested for stabality and more system support.
Just see the minimum spec.

The game may be endup in DVD Rom if they want everything in but the
Studio also have an operating cost to cover.

See if DA and Microsoft can improve the next game concept
as PC will eventualy undergo to 3rd Generation concept

I love both HW and the Privateers series, and I couldn't wait for the sequels.
After a long delay, FL shows up, and it was great.

However, recently I visited HW2 homepage and see great promises on HW2, so unless DA do some revolutionary changes (eg. releasing an expansion pack), maybe I'll switch side for a moment to HW2 as soon it's available.

Since HW2 is a different genre to FL, I say that this is not a very disturbing issue.
What supposed to be compared is FL to X2: Beyond Whatisname Threat, since it's the same genre and both offers freestyle play mode. Maybe X2 will included some cap-ships which could be piloted and even an entire fleet to command

But for now, I'm sticking my nose to FL, untill HW2 shows up, or maybe X2
