Tachyon was a good gome.. the only tiny draw back was that it didn't have a roll twist handle support for the joystick. Freespace 2 damned unfindable. I've been sarching for it since last year, and no luck.. I have free space 1, and starlancer. Bought starlancer hoping that there would be a mission editor for starlancer... no luck also.. I'll turn back to SL if tehmission editor ever comes out.

Lurking device deactivated!
I replayed Tachyon recently (finally did the Galspan line), so I had the opportunities to compare it with Freelancer.
Space in Tachyon is realistically proportioned unlike FL. It's huge and the only way to get from place to place in a single system is via gates. On the other side, FL can hide things like wrecks while there's no way Tachyon can do that.
Space stations are HUGE in Tachyon, but you can't really dock with most of them! I found this frustrating LONG before FL was ever released. Replaying Tachyon now just makes that more evident.
Tachyon has that lovely Slide maneuver, but you have to point the whole friggin' ship to aim. FL gives you a wide frontal firing arc, but no slide. Argh!
Tachyon gives you a wider variety in missions but once you've used them up, they're gone. FL has a limited variety of missions (outside the campaign) but can go on forever.
No Trading in Tachyon. While it makes realistic sense, I wandered the whole Galspan campaign since New Vegas hauling around a crate of spare parts I couldn't get rid of.
FL doesn't put shields on capital ships or even gunboats, while Tachyon does. I've always wondered about this technical oversight.
FL fighters can repair themselves in mid-flight. Tachyon fighters...can't.
In general, I want a game that combines the best features of these two.

Lol you're right, its frustating...
btw, Tachyon fighters can 'repair' themselves, it does take time...precious time. If u got all energy on the shields repairs, the laser energy bar goes up, and the afterburner energy goes up. And in MP powerups, instant repair... But nothing like FL ships do: press 1 button and woosh repaired.

No wrecks, but there was goodies to salvage, if you knew where.
Mostly hiding among asteroids, if I remember right.
I sold that crate rather easy. You don't dock in TTF, you land on the landing pads.
Woman's voice thanked me very nice and I launched off. Slide RULES.

The best part about Tachyon is the split storyline and how the two sides differ so much, Galspan ships are faster and more advanced and the Bora are tougher and do more damage, it's really quite cool. Also how you only know the truth about what happened to you if you do the Bora campaign... Damn Galspan...
Best ship: The Pegasus...So fast...
Compare your lives to mine then kill yourselves.

about Fl there is a slide. It is toggled by the z button, on/off.
Tachyon: Best space/sim game before freespace 2.
as said not every station is dockable, etc.... etc....
Ships are great.
Fav ship: Galspan Cruiser Persephone. I don't know why it just is. It's just..beautiful.
Fav pilotable ship. Pegasus - It's like taking a gremlin and attaching saturn-5 rockets onto it. Yeehaw!....

A similarity...
In both TTF and FL, I parked by fighter in the exhaust plume of a capital ship and took NO DAMAGE!
The exhaust plume in both games is a sweet spot. As long as it's just you and the enemy capital ship, the capital ship can't shoot you because no gun turrets are covering this spot.
