HELP! I cant get past the forces protecting the sattelite.

Hey.
Im on missions 10+11+12 if u can call them like that coz there are no breakups between them to get money.
I got a level 6 sentry heavy fighter shield with level 5 and 6 weapons and slingshot missiles. But I CANNOT get past those ships protecting the sattelite. I made it once, and then rendevouz with walker and we are being jumped right b4 the jump gate and I am being teared down in seconds. Thier weapons are lame .

Help?
Even if I go back 5 missions back to get some money, I cant find any better weapons because my ship limits it to level 6. So wtf?

Any techniques? Tactics? Or what?

DeSeis, I think you are referring to mission 11 (rescue a simple politician) since you mentioned the satellite.

In this portion of the tutorial you learn how to evade enemy fire effectively; you also get a chance to practice taking out a large stationary object and two exercises in precision docking under fire (jumpgate, battleship).

The Liberty Navy fighters you encounter in this mission can hit pretty hard; don't take them head on, especially during the initial approach of the fighter wings. Change course often and use the afterburners to vary speed, in order to break the regularity of your flight pattern. If the AI can predict your flight path you're toast.

It is much easier to dispatch the satellite if you take out the fighters first (IIRC it is just one wing anyway). After dispatching the fighters, approach the satellite with guns blazing but be sure to evade incoming fire (missiles) from the weapon platforms. Once you are near the satellite it will shield you from the weapon platforms, so just park your ship there and keep firing until the satellite explodes. This part is actually a repeat of exercise 9 (Tekagi's Arch) but much easier because you are allowed to take out the fighters.

Everything is easier when you know the trick. The trick I found here was that if you engage cruise engines and fly around in circles, the enemy forces very rarely hit you and you can rebuild shields fairly easily.

Take out the fighters, then the weapons platforms, then the satellite. Be patient and being extremely close to a weapons platform SEEMS to shield you from their fire as well as make yours more effective.

how can u destroythe enemy fighters, weapons platforms, and then the satelite while still using cruise engines?

Post Thu Jul 31, 2003 6:28 pm

Can you tell me how you evade the Whasp Missiles then Bulldog?

You engage your cruise engine until your shield builds up. Flying in a circle at that speed confuses the AI so bad that their aim is WAY off.

The technique works in other places, but especially so in this mission because it's in Liberty where Wasps are few and far between (if at all). I wasn't hit by a single Wasp.

Sorry, my bad for not elaborating in the earlier post that once your shield is up you have to kick back out of cruise.

As I said, the technique works in other systems (but not as well) because the constant turn tends to throw off the Wasps. Occasionally you do get hit and have to kick in the engines again. You can also drop counter measures, they are cheap and plentiful.

This technique does not work well in an asteroid field and even worse in a mine field.

do what sherlog says but remember to fire a few shots off here and there and even chase a few too when your shooting thats one less shooting at you

This belongs in the spoiler forum...

I use an Anubis, with Death's Hand II's on all the mounts except the two on the nose, with a shield killing turret on top. I put a pair of Catapult missiles on there, combined with a Starkiller launcher(that combo provides roughly two torpedoes' worth of firepower). That takes out the satellite at record speed.

I keep engine kill on for the whole battle, using the thruster when I need to change direction...that way, I never have to slow down or run out of thruster fuel, which is invaluble in evading enemy fire. Once I'm in the minefield, I stop using engine kill, since any small mistake navigating could mean disaster.

What's the point of this question? we can't help you only to say that you should buy better equipment but you could think that of your own,get my point?

Post Sat Aug 02, 2003 9:22 pm

I think it is reasonable to assume that the point of the question is to elicit information that might be helpful for beating the mission.

Using proper equipment can make the mission easier and using bad equipment can make it a little harder, but on the whole the 'hardware' is much less important than the 'software' (skill, right tactics/approaches). People have managed to die flying this mission in Anubises, Hawks and Drakes, but people have also flown it in Starfliers without any problems whatsoever.

One unrelated case that might illustrate the importance of using the right approach ... One fine day in the Dublin system I noticed the red cross of a ship wreck on the nav map. I navigated my ship close to the location by way of setting a nav point, and it turned out that the spot was in the middle of a mined asteroid field patrolled by wings of Mollys. So I battled the Wolfhounds, and after each wing there would be a few seconds where I could scrutinize my surroundings in turret view to find the wreck, before the next Molly patrol arrived. I had to kill more than 40 of the Wolfhounds before I found the wreck ... Not the easiest of things to do for a newbie, especially in a mine field. You see, I simply did not know that I could have had the ship computer point the wreck out for me, by right-clicking the red cross on the nav map and using the finger icon, or by selecting the wreck in the solars list once I was near enough.

A similar case is mission 4. It is dead easy, even in a Starflier, if you know how to dock with a tradelane quickly. On the other hand, it can be very tough if you don't even know that it is possible to dock without any delay whatsoever ... If you let the ship computer do the docking from far away then it is likely that even a full supply of nanos/batts cannot save you.

Thanks for the tips Sherlog. Is there a FAQ with this kind of info in it somewhere and if not have you thought about writing one? I'm pretty sure it would help out a lot of people. I just don't have the time to figure out all this stuff on my own, I play to relax and being frustrated by the game isn't very relaxing.
