more money = higher levels.
what do you think? you can start the game and fly the best ships right of the bat?

Sheesh! RTFM

So let me get this straight! My pilot levels go up when i collect enough cash? I would have thought it would go up with a certain number of kills.

Anyone confirm this please.

P.S. I didn't expect anything, just merely asking a question. You need to sit back and take a blue pill or two.

Correct. Kills mean nothing, cash levels up.

actually it your current worth that levels you the amount of money you own and the worth of your ship

open the char. payne (if i remember right the defult key is F-8?) and look where is says "next level". it should have a monitary value there (unless you are in SP then it gets alittle confusing but same consept). That is how much more you need for the next level. In other words RTFM.

Is there a utility for the level, apart from the fact that it limits the ships we can buy? I ask because i heard rumors that level is limited to 38 in the game... Is it true? Do we care?

Post Thu May 15, 2003 10:53 pm

As far as I know, 38 is the maximum level.

Trading is my favorite way to level up quickly. I spent about four hours making trade runs last night and went from level 1 to level 35. It's not as easy as it sounds, especially early on, when you're sinking all of your available cash into your cargo hold.

But what is the meaning of levels greater than 32? The biggest ship requires level 32. So to be level 38 is useless?

Maybe I've just been lucky, but I've never been limited by level when making purchases in multiplayer. As soon as I can afford a ship in MP it allows me to buy it.

Your level seems to have a little impact on what class of weapons enemy ships can drop when you kill them. There are certain enemy ships that everyone hunts down at higher levels because of the weapons they can drop, and for those specific enemies the chances of them dropping their weapons for a character below level 35 seems somewhat low.

Note: The statement above, while supported by my own personal experience, is based entirely on the supposition of the general community here and observed trends. It has yet to be backed up as "fact" by someone digging through Freelancer's code. Your mileage may vary. Check the spoiler forum for further details.

I am presently level 14 and i have 1000000 credits. I would have loved to buy a titan

I obtained those credits by 3 very lucrative cargo runs after i got the Dromadary... Takes 45-50 minutes per run but it pay real cash!

Well, I was somewhat wrong. Level 38 is the max on an unmodded server. Elite lets you go beyond that. I saw a couple of level 50+ characters in there last night.

Elite is not modded. They are running a beta of the server patch. DA changed the levels.
