A couple of things

Hello I'm a newcomer here, and have a couple of things to ask if I may.

I just bought FreeLancer, and whilst I think it is awesome, I was wondering firstly if it is possible to get rid of the brackets around the other ships as I would like to be able to see them and their detail, the brackets kind of get in the way.

The other thing I would like to ask is, do you have to complete the Single Player Campaign before you can fly off and do your own thing, only somewhere I read that you could do this from pretty much the start of the game, but when I started playing, I have'nt been able to do so, I constantly have to either meet some-one in the bar or in space and do missions for them/with them.

Slightly confused and would appreciate some help and advice.

Welcome to TLR!!
There isn't an option available to switch them off, they're there to highlight aggressive or friendly fighters in the area, it'll need modding to remove those, if its possible (sorry i'm no expert on the modding scene).
As for the storyline, you don't have to immediately go back to wherever your being sent to continue the story, you can leave it as long as you like. Also when Juni gives you your mission briefing you can often decline, she'll sound pissed off and will say she'll be waiting till your done, then you can go off and do your own thing.
You can avoid the storyline altogether by starting a local MP server and limit members to one, that way you get the entire universe to explore but no storyline at all.

Thank you for the welcome, I too am no expert on modding and would never be so! lol

Ok that's fine about the brackets I hope some-one will do that but I suppose it is neccessary to keep them for the reasons you explained.

On the Storyline bit, when you say start a Server, I don't play online, as I only have a dial up modem, I still live in the dark ages!! LOL or can I do what you said for playing on my own?

Sorry please forgive my stupidity, you said limit the members to 1 and then off I can go, just did'nt read your post properly, sorry! lol
