Mounting looted weapons on your ship

Is it possible to do that? How? It seems a bit silly that, if you're lucky enough to loot in some good equipment, you need to sell it and buy it back in order to mount it on your ship...

You can mount and dismount weapons when you're docked by clicking on the little blue icon in the upper corner of the picture of your weapon.
