Why do high lvl players only shoot at newbies?

Does it make them feel superior? On just about ever server that doesn't have a password, I've encountered either cheaters using GOD mode or high lvl players shooting a newbies. Some of these A**holes will even camp the docking ring in Manhattan just to randomly kill as many newbies as they can. What gives? How come they NEVER and I mean NEVER shoot at players at or near their lvl? This is getting to be ridiculous. It's making MP a massive pain.

Don't know. I've only PK'd once, it was some newb, but he started shooting at me. I was ignoring him until he took down my shields, a couple volleys from my Humpy toasted his Starflier in short order. He laughed, I chuckled, and he didn't do it again.

The only time I was PK'd I was in a Pirahna(IIRC) doing a trade run through Kusari. I come out of a tradlane and see a fellow human player. I quickly rush to my next tradelane when the guy tells me to "Stop!". I ignore him and proceed to Dock, he takes out the tradering, I jump on my Cruise Engines. He hits me with a Cruise Disrupter, my shields drop shortly afterwards, in a couple more seconds I'm respawning. I was at least a level 20 though, so it doesn't really apply to the subject at hand.

Well as you say thier a**holes or failing that 12 year olds with very little else to do with thier time.

I don't really run this place but I have an understanding with the people who do.

I have been limiting my on line play to the Elite server. I am currently level 51 and I recently got jumped by a lower level player. He shot me from behind as I left a base, so it can happen the other way around.
Now, why does it happen? Simple, you have a whole bunch of people playing the game who do not have the physical capacity to be bullies in real life. Given that power in a video game and they go Lord of the Flies on everyone around them.

Look at it from a differant direction. Think about the type of mentality that delights in doing this type of thing. Now are you not glad that you do not have to live inside there wretched skins. Most of the time the only thing I feel is pity for these poor bastards. I mean how worthless is your life if you get your jollys by cheating on a vid game. Can you say working for minuium wage for life. Sad

ive had an experience where i was killed by some 40 level player and i was only level 2 with a starflier carrying absolutely nothing (go figure). But that was on a different server than Elite. I have never had any trouble with pvp on the elite server so I return the favor to everyone else by not killing them either.

Well my intoxicated Ewok friend, you know I don’t PvP either. I hate it. As far as I am concerned everyone on Elite is my friend until they prove otherwise. And man I have a lot of friends. In fact, when the aforementioned person shot me, I called some of my friends. They all showed up. They guy that shot me had a BAD day. I made my piece with him without any payment of restitution. However the half a dozen or more people that came to my defense might not have been so understanding.

Well, I guess they fear people that are their own level. I have only PK'ed once and that was because the one was a dirtbag towards my friends and he was... about my level, maybe a little more maybe a little less...

Well anyway, they have nothing else to do.

hello

holliday said that they were 'level 51'

when i completed the single player campaign it promoted me to level 38 but then said that was 'max level'.

can you only increase past this point in multiplayer?

Post Sun May 11, 2003 9:04 pm

ah, i get it, just read the 'max lvl' topic.

Nobody has the balls to face someone who has any chance of taking them out. Thus, they go for easy, helpless kills that serve only to put another tally on their killboard. And that's all it boils down to.

Reaper: $200,000,000.
Rockets: $100,000
The look on that pilot's face when you launch a full pod of screamers up his tailpipe: priceless

I have never seen any blantant Newb slaying by high lvl players. The closest I have seen is a small group of people(at least 3) in the server that I play in who go around pirating players. They ask for half or 70 units fo your cargo(depending on what you are flying), if they not get it they toast your ship. Even then I think they try to stick to players above a certain lvl, haven't seen them attack people under lvl 10 yet. But if there is a problem with newb slaying just get a nice fleet of VHFs and do a sweep through NY or where ever they hanging out.

Some people play too many of those slug fest games..so they got carried away..

first tactic a newbie should learn is how to run away ASAP..

I do a lot of pirating. Yes i have killed many other players. But i dont kill noobs, thats just weak. I do use a similar rule except i wont pirate anyone under lvl 25 and i only ask for half the cargo. It might be seen as being an a**hole, but I could try and kill everyone and take all your cargo. Also i usually tend to do some escort missions.
